Am I insane to potty train a 14.5 month old?!

I thought I was seeing things or putting ideas in her head, but my 14.5 month old is taking me to the mat to get changed when she has done a poo. On the times that she can't physically go herself or lead me there if I ask her if we should get changed because she's done a poo she said yes. A few times I've asked her, thinking she's had a poo when she hasn't, and she's said no. Wees we have no idea, but then my boy was 20 months when he fully potty trained and didn't know about wees in advance either.

No it used to be more common to do it from 12 months onwards when people could afford to SAHPs.

It's also age-old wisdom that a hot spell is the perfect to time (warm, less clothes, in the garden a lot).

If you think she's ready, where's the harm in trying?

Put a potty by the changing mat and see what happens.

I would definitely encourage this! She obviously knows when she's done a poo, and wants to be changed. I would look out for signs she's about to do one or is in the process and pop her on the potty. You may find she ends up doing all poos in the potty and wees come a bit later.

This is true, I hadn't thought about splitting it up if needed. We just went nappy cold turkey with my boy and he smashed it (despite being non verbal at the time) so I'm happy to follow her lead but it just feels so early!

What love to hear what your plans is - I think my 15 month old is also about ready but ask the guidance I've read is too wait, which I agree doesn't make sense

So my current plan is to give her this week as normal in nappies and check she's consistently wanting to get changed. If she is then we'll go for it and ditch nappies apart from at night and for naps. My little boy potty trained in a couple of days at 20 months so I know that speech and being able to do their own clothes isn't crucial as long as you pay attention. But yeah, not going to lie, it's a bit daunting 😂 let me know what you decide!

Just a quick update in case anyone is in a similar position - we went for it when she turned 16 months and she cracked it completely the first day. Dry at night a week after that. Mental, but true. By the second day she was taking herself off for wees and poos even if I wasn't in the room.
