My baby is 14 weeks old now. He had his second round of jabs almost a week ago and since having them he’s been hating being awake it seems. He was really unsettled after the first lot too for at least a week. Prior he has had days of being ok but a lot of the time he just doesn’t seem happy or comfortable.
it’s like he can be awake and seem content for a maximum of 10 minutes, then a switch flicks and he just starts screaming, arching his back. Screeching so much that he coughs.
I don’t know what to do. We had him checked as we thought he had some reflux, they agreed it could be and we have tried gaviscon, other than that they said colic. We took him to A&E one night as he started to refuse milk. They told us we were over feeding him and that we should feed him tiny amounts and just listen to him scream pretty much…
Sometimes he seems overtired but it’s after being awake not long at all.
He doesn’t want to be held, put down, doesn’t like this position or that position, doesn’t seem to like anything.
I’m feeling like a complete failure and just want to crawl away from it all
i don’t know if there is something wrong, but I have always been told he’s just colicky and that I can’t expect him to not cry

Oh bless you, sounds a lot like my first. She was a really unsettled baby at that age, seemed unhappy basically all the time she was awake, started refusing feeds (breastfed), silent reflux. It was a real struggle to get her to sleep at all and she'd only nap for 40 mins max so she always seemed overtired.

We were prescribed gaviscon but I don't think it helped for us as it was so hard to give when breastfeeding. We actually finally had a tongue tie diagnosed at 11.5 months, after being told by midwives, HV and 2 GPs that she didn't have one. Personally I think this contributed to the reflux, but honestly there is no way of knowing for sure.

She outgrew the worst of it by 5 or 6 months and is a very happy 2.5yo.

Baby no 2 is 15 weeks and comparatively a complete dream, had a couple of weeks of colicky evenings but nothing like the months we had with my first. We havent done anything different, excwpt have her assessed by an TT practitioner to confirm that she doesn't have one.

Very stressful but you aren't doing anything wrong! It will pass. Babywearing might help. Have you looked into CMPA? Might be worth considering. 'Colic' is such an unhelpful term for an unsettled baby and I really feel for you.

Another thought, does he take a dummy? I would rather have avoided one, but it did help with the screaming and reflux symptoms with my first. Took a while to get her to take one but we persevered and she eventually took one around 15 weeks. Lost interest by 8 months so we didn't have the issue of getting it off her later.

Thank you so much for your reply @Brbreeze - I keep reading how 12 weeks was a ‘switch’ for people where their babies were suddenly loads more settled and happy. Mine seems to have got worse in some ways since 12 weeks :/
He has been a pretty good sleeper to be fair, has a couple half hour - 45 min naps and a long 2-3 hour nap in the early afternoon and night sleep has been good. But the naps aren’t happening since he had his jabs and his nighttime sleep has decreased too. He just isn’t happy whenever he’s awake at all at the moment, he just cries or whines. Or he will be smiley and happy then suddenly scrunches up and screams which could be wind, reflux, etc etc I have no idea.
I will have a look into CPMA, thank you.
He does take a dummy sometimes and it sometimes helps to settle him. It happened today, he took the dummy and seemed comfy and settled then out of nowhere spat it out and started screaming :/
