When to move toddler to a bed?

DD is 2y1m and sleeps happily in cot, and in a travel cot at the childminders. She can’t climb out and shows no signs of having trouble sleeping. Is there an age I ‘should’ be moving her over?

I bought a blow up toddler bed for a recent trip away which was thankfully only 1 night as she refused to sleep in it and ended up in our bed!

My DD was sleeping happily in her cot until she was just over 3. She started climbing out at that point so that’s when I switched her to a toddler bed.

Nearly 3 and still in a cot. Whatever works for you and your child.

Mine is 3 in September - we only moved her because she was in a single bed with a bed guard when we were on holiday at the end of June and was used to it enough that we decided to take the sides off when we got back. She never showed any interest in climbing out and I do miss being able to pop her in and not have her be able to get out so deffo don't rush it if things are working.

DD1 was fine until 3 - would've happily stayed there but I became pregnant again.
DD2 climbed out of her cot by piling up bedding and mattress and dangling over the sides at 11 months so I put her in a bed
Depends on the child and your needs I suppose.

I'd say don't rush. We bought a cot bed for DD2. She's now 3y 6m and we toon off the sides about 8 weeks ago and she demanded a bed guard which we're now trying to take away. I rushed it with my first but if you're not feeling rushed or pressured wait til they're ready. They all get there in the end c

Ds was 2½ when he moved to a bed. He needed to be able to get up for the toilet

When they climb out, dd1 was 17 months, dd2 was 15 months - and yes they enjoyed climbing walls as kids and dd2 goes rock climbing as an adult Grin

We moved our daughter to a bed at 23 months, 2 months before our son was due. We needed the cot for him. We pushed her bed against the wall and used a bed guard on the other side. Moving to the bed wasn't an issue with her.

20 months as my second baby needed the cot! He liked his big bed (we had a guard rail attached) and no issues moving.

The longer they stay in one the better. If they are ready for toilet training or start to try to climb out then you need to get on with it.

Id get a bed next to yours have them sleep in that then get them used to their own space and edge them into it x

Longer the better. My dd never showed signs- such as wanted to climb out.
However, around 2 years and 3 months, she started to fight nightsleep and woke up a few times during night. We took the sides off the cot, and she became excited for bed and slept through again.

Keep them in cot as long as you can IMO, we only moved ours when they started to climb out. Possibly after age 3, I can't remember.
