Dislike the term primary care giver

Morning - just wondered what everyone’s views are here? At work people seem to refer to me as a primary caregiver etc, and use the term regularily. I’m not sure whether it’s to be politically correct? No idea. But I really hate it. I am my child’s mother, my child calls me mama not primary caregiver so I hate the term being used….. anyone else feel like that or just me?

I agree. I have earned my title.

And it sis a tittle, not a job description.

I think it’s not to denigrate parents but include grandparents, aunts, foster parents etc. into the group of people being discussed. Do you work in a place like social services where not all mums have custody or parenting time ? I’ve had school forms where I am caregiver then mum as relationship to child but filling in childminder details may also be fair in those circumstances.

It's to not exclude the primary care giver when it isn't mum.

Primary care giver is a description of a person who does most of the care - which is most often the mother, but can be the father, grandparent, foster carer etc

It’s got nothing to do with your status as a mother, so I wouldn’t let that bother you

I don’t understand why people are using it at your workplace though?!

I hate it too.

Agree with other posters - the term exists for clarity when the primary carer isn't the mother so that, for example, there is no ambiguity if the grandparent is actually the 'adult in charge of the child' rather than the mother for whatever reason. I can't see what there is to get upset about here tbh.
