hi we are starting work on our garden in about a month, and id like one of these for dd in the future, she will only be one when then garden is done, so i think something like this will be addeed at a later date.

id like to know what age you think it would be ok to add something like this to the garden?

My 3 y.o. could manage that my 18m would have a go and therefore be a blardy liability

mistlethrush · 15/04/2008 15:10

We got one of the TP ones that you can have height adjustable and got parents etc to contribute towards it for ds's 2nd birthday - got a swing the previous summer and spent a lot of time with it - we got a 'pirate boat' which was fab as he would have his lunchtime nap in it sometimes which meant I could spend time out in the garden without worrying that I wouldn't hear him.

The one you picture seems to have quite a big slide - ds would love that now at 3, but it looks a little bit big for 2 if you want them to be able to do it themselves without you hovering all the time.

my 3yo has one like that at his gps and has been using it since about 2,5yo. Though at the beginning he needed help.

thanks its really useful hearing your views, i only have one dd 9 months so i have no idea what sort of toys they can play with when they are older and at what age.

We have one with 2 swings - have just bought a bucket seat for ds, and will revert to the normal swing for him when he's older. The steps to the slide are a problem for him, but as we had it before he was born (was for his older sister) we jsut have to watch him like a hawk!

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 15:30

mistle yes perhaps the tp one at age 2 would be good

crumpet, do you have the tp one?

I have 2 and 3 year olds and have recentl invested in a TP climbing frame and slide. they can be put on a low height so your DD could use it now and raised later( everything is included) My 2 already are fine with it at full height.

We chose not to have a swing as the dc would not be able to use it independantly and high risk of accidents.

Competition to win a TP one . link on homepage

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 15:42

hi soup, thanks for the tip about th comp.
what age do you think swings are ok.

this info is really useful to me

Well I know my dd would think nothing of running in front of a swing her brother was in or in swinging an unoccupied swing randomly.
She is 3.5
Really it depends how closely you plan on supervising, I am normally in the garden but not constantly watching like a hawk- I think its the ideal place for a bit of freedom from and for Mum.

I don't plan on putting a swing in the garden now as it makes trips to the park more special, butprobably about 6 if I was planning it , mind you mine have the devil in them

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 19:56

thanks soup, good point, i want to be able to relax instead of watching dd like a hawk every second

We've got our TP swing set up with a baby seat one side and the pirate boat the other. Got swing and seat on ebay, got pirate boat new. Really appreciated having this when ds was younger particularly - he could have 5 mins in the swing 6 or more times during the day - impossible to get to the park that much or stay there that long. Not had any accidents yet - trying to teach ds that running in front of swings or pushing them not a good idea (ds 3)

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/04/2008 12:35

Hello again .
Haven't read other answers as don't want to be influenced.
Dd would have managed the ladder climb to the slide by 18 months. If you can get a baby seat for the swing she'd be fine from around 6 months, moving to a non-baby swing around 2-2.5.
Not sure about trapeze, but dd would hold on to the bar and swing below it now (2.2) if it was low enough.
No experience yet with rope climbing, but I've never been able to climb one, and am now 34!

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/04/2008 12:42

Ok, so my answers are earlier than most, but worth pointing out that dd was an early physical developer (sitting 4 months, crawling 7 months, cruising 7/8 months, walking before 11).

We have the TP climbing frame on toddler height (with toddler run and a couple of platforms, as well as the twizzler) and dd is competent enough to be left to climb up and over it.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 16/04/2008 15:08

hi again can't sleep, thanks fro all the answers, i think this is going to something i add next year, i think ill go for the tp one.
im messing about making a scrapbook with all my garden ideas today. wow your dd was early wasn't she. if you need to learn how to use a rope check out go ape

16 weeks, but GA make you sign your life away before they will let you take part if you are pg.

tassisssss · 16/04/2008 15:31

lion, if your dd is about 9 months, I'd really recommend that you get a swing this summer with a bucket style baby seat. We got a TP seat off ebay last summer for our existing swing and dd (who was 1 last September) spend HOURS last summer dangling in the swing seat watching her big brother and his friends, or me hanging out washing, or us all eating lunch/dinner. It was a FABULOUS buy. From time to time one of us would push her, but often she'd just hang there!

The little tyke jungle climber would be good by next summer, she may manage the wee little tikes cube this summer. If you can afford it do consider the TP stuff that can start at toddler height and be added to.

The other thing she could like this summer'd be a wee trampoline with handle. My 2 have both loved this from about a year.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 16/04/2008 15:35

oh i was only asking because im nosey, not because i think you should get up there !!
ps, cwsw, ive got a thread, well me talking to myself really, lol, going on chat, called am i unemployable?
if you get chance could you sneak a peek and see if you have any ideas for me

tass lol that sounds like a good idea, the bucket seat swing. i can't wait till dd can have all this stuff
