My youngest DS is almost 2.5 and doesn't listen to a word I say. His answer to everything is 'No'. He's so destructive and combative, everything is a massive ordeal. He fights nappy changes, getting his teeth brushed, getting in the bath, bedtime... EVERYTHING! I'm at the end of my tether now.

He gets himself into such a state when he doesn't get what he wants and his tantrums an last an hour.

Anyone else go through this this their DC? How did you manage it? Did things change as they got older?

I think I’m there too right now :-( love him to bits but my god he is hardwork! Went to a play date with antenatal friends yesterday and he was by far the worse kid there!!! Made two other kids cry!!

I really struggle with how to handle the tantrums… I noticed some people yesterday were like they ignore the tantrum? Which I think is what my mum says - but I’ve been trying to be more understanding of emotions and want him to be a well balanced person when he grows! As I guess I was ignored and I am a people pleaser and probably give in too easy?!

Argh it’s so hard! I’m worried for his future at the moment!

Last night he ended up with a bag of choc chip brioche in his cot 😂😂 cause he was throwing self about so much and I needed to get him to bed… he wouldn’t leave kitchen without them! I do tend to take the easy route as he gets so worked up. He didn’t nap yesterday so I think that didn’t help matters!

My husband still has mantrums … I am a bit worried that is where he is getting it from! SIL has told me some awful stories of when they were growing up!! He is generally lovely but maybe 2/3 times a year he also has a meltdown and seems unable to control behaviour

He wouldn't leave without them? Doubtful. Tell him no and remove him from the kitchen. Put a baby gate on your kitchen door. He knows you're an absolute pushover I'm afraid. Major red flags about your husband throwing fits as well that your child is seeing.

Good luck. And yes, ignore the tantrums. You think ignoring them is somehow hurtful to him, but the answer certainly isn't chocolate pastries in his bed because he threw a hissy fit. He's behaving like that because he knows it works or has enough of a chance of working that it's worth trying.
