Hi all, wondering what people's experience is of ditching the dummy? My son is 2.5 and has only used them for sleep but we have decided to go cold turkey this weekend. Thanks!

We planted our last dummy in a plant pot and in the morning a strawberry plant had grown for DS to look after. He never asked for it after that!

That's a lovely idea! I'm just hoping he won't have too tough a time with it.

This is adorable.

We swapped ours for a new teddy, at 2.5 dd still had hers at night I felt it was a comfort and I was too weak to take it from her 😀 she was nearer 3.5 .

We've just done it this weekend, DD was very attached, took two to bed every night. We read a couple of books to her about giving up dummy for a few weeks, and did the dummy fairy, she got to decide her present, she put the dummy's under the tree for fairies to take and got the present next morning. We had a bit of upset going to bed first night but when she woke in night didn't ask for them, and following nights she's asked once, we reminded her she'd given them to the fairies and she was fine about it. AMAZED how well she's taken it. She's just gone 3 and then think ideal time in terms of her understanding concept of giving it up etc.

We've just got back from holiday with 26mo. She was down to naps and nighttime only. She was knackered whilst we were away so just tried putting her to bed without it and she didn't even notice! She's asked for it once in the morning but soon forgot.

When DD was 19 months We left ours outside in the fairy garden that we had made together, in the morning she went out to check if they'd taken them and they'd left her a sticker book and some chocolate, she never mentioned it again

Thanks everyone! We had our first night without last night after putting them on a dummy tree. He had a bit of grumbling (no crying) as he was settling then slept really well until about 5... But woke up and he's covered in chicken pox the poor wee man! In good spirits though and hugely cheered up by the bing t-shirt the fairy left for him <3 x

Oh bless him, I hope he's ok and not to bad with the chicken pox.
