do you think 1 is too young for a playhouse?

h,
we are getting our garden landscaped starting next month, and dd is 1 at the end of june. i was planning on putting in a playhouse for dd[ i always really wanteed one when i was younger]
i would of perhaps waited till dd was older, but it makes sense in practical terms to get the playhous done at the same time s the garden as we will have to put down a base and prepare the land for it etc.

i remember when my newphew was one he used to love going to the shed, which a playhouse really is i guess.

anyway dh be nice if dd had it when she was older so could sort of go wow,[lol hopefully thinking] rather than its always been there, but even if we wait till shes 2 say, she might well be more interested in a cardborad box or all the wrapping paper, from her other presents.

playhousehere

so what do you mums think? get it done now while its will be much easier to get the base done etc?
i said to dh perhaps we could get the playhouse this year, then next year when shes 2, get a kitchen etc for it ?
but id be v v interested in your views as would dh.
thanks

MrsMattie · 15/04/2008 11:11

Get it done while you're doing the garden, I say.

Get it done now. She won't understand it as a birthday present, but it's worthwhile doing now. Accessorise it in future years wiht birthday presents.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 12:04

oh great, i was hopeing thats what you'd think too.

dh actually asked me post this one !

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/04/2008 12:11

Oh definitely get it now. We bought dd one when she was only 1 (pic of it on my profile) and she gets loads of use out of it (is now 2.2).

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 12:15

oh great, im excited now
did she go in it when she was one?

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 15/04/2008 12:20

She did indeed . She was an early walker so was pretty mobile, and we bought a 2nd hand kitchen to go in it which she loves, as well as it having a built in blackboard and drop down table for her to sit at.

She has been out in the garden loads since the weather picked up, so definitely getting more use from it this year, but the beauty of a playhouse is that its use can grow with the child.

jumpingbeans · 15/04/2008 12:21

Go for it, and get he biggest one you can afford or have the space for,,we put one in for our gc years ago and they all still use it, even the bigger ones dissapear with a book they are 12,dh has extended it twice, now has big comfy chairs.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 12:24

wow that is fab what a lucky and beautiful dd.

what sort of age do you think kids grow out of them? i know my dds will be smaller, seems to be like something they will love for years

OP posts:
lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 12:28

jumping beans, wow they still use it at 12!
dh will be pleased to hear that!
perhaps we should consider a larger one.
ill talk to dh about getting a bigger one.
i think it will be a great investment
i love to see a piccy [nosey]

Have a drool on here if you want big! (You'll find ours if you look hard enough).

sleepdeprivationandme · 15/04/2008 12:40

My niece got one for her first birthday - very similar to the one you are looking at. Its the best thing mummy and daddy did - ds1 loves it, so we have got a playhouse for his 3rd birthday. They use them all weathers and love picnics in there when its nippy outsaide and might otherwise be indoors. coats on and off into the playhouse. my sister has put lino and oversized cushions on the floor. its ace.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 12:47

can't sleep and sleepdep what age do you think my dd will be able to use it upto.[can use this info on dh to get the best one poss]
i love mn its great to be able to views form so many people
oh yes i was thinking of using lino. too sleepdep. did your sister think its the best thing they got there dd?

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 12:49

i was thinking of one like this

here

but im not sure about the head room, with it have a second floor.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 15/04/2008 12:57

It's a shame they don't show any internal pics, but the second floor is unlikely to be all the way over. They usually at least leave a 'well' where an adult can stand and direct proceedings from.

The company that we used make them bespoke btw, so if you see something you like and want to tweak it a bit then they are ideal.

The plan with ours is that we could remove the second floor at some point, perhaps when they are teenagers and want more of an adult 'den'.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/04/2008 12:59

I'm so jealous!

We have an ah-mazing Teepee but don't have a garden anymore. It causes quite a stir when we take it to the park though, we make lots of new tot friends, lol.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 13:10

can't sleep i noticed on your profile your an accountant, or where, so is my dh.
got any fancy way of describing to dh what a great investment it is.

dwp what a great idea to take the teepe to the park

can't sleep im looking at that site now. what a excellent idea to take the upstairs floor away when there older.

Prufrock · 15/04/2008 16:16

Mine is the first one on page 4 of CSWS's link. My dc's are 4 and 6 now and still love it - they have already spring cleaned it and are using it at weekends - I'm also planning on it being used as a teenage den with the second floor removed. I had mine put in as part of a garden relandscaping and it meant the garden designer could plan around it, and plant shrubs etc in the right places. We've also enclosed a garden for the kids within the picket fence, so they have their own little patch to look after

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 19:59

good news dh has agreeed to go ahead with the playhouse.
horray!!
the power of MN wins again lol

thats a lovely playhouse prufrock, i cant get him to go for one like yours and cant sleeps though. oh well more more for my miltonkeynes garden seaside i guess

off to research playhouses now

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 21:53

can'tsleep where does your dh work abroad? which country?
how do you find being a sahm?
.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 15/04/2008 22:02

I'm very North Herts - about 30 mins from MK (M1 permitting!).

Being a SAHM much harder than working ever was, but no doubt I'll think it was easy when number 2 arrives!

Dh work varies. He's spent a lot of the last few years in Dublin, but is currently in Memphis, on his fourth trip there so far this year. He's prob done about 40 countries for work in all though.

Maybe we should get together for coffee - sounds like you're considering your own working life. You can mail me on CantSleepWontSleep at gmail dot com if you like. You're welcome to bring dd to play in the playhouse for an afternoon, esp if you're free on Thursdays.

lionbeastwithalionheart · 15/04/2008 22:14
