well does anyone actually know what the temperature is meant to be? cos i was bought both when ds was born but i had no idea what the correct temperature was meant to be so just sort of guessed with my hand/finger.

Elbow temperature - 37C

Stick your elbow in the bath and it's the right temperature when it feels neither hot nor cold. That's for a young baby. As they get older and are in the bath for a while, they can have it slightly warmer.

Apparently you can use the inside of your wrist too. I think your DS is probably old enough for you to stick your hand in and feel. I would have it warm but not really warm/ hot.

We had a duck that changed colour if the water was too hot.

I always used my elbow as well for bath water. To start with I had one of those temperature strips that illuminate the temperature - twas rubbish.

No idea about food, but bath 36-38 for child, 38-40 for adult.

nappyaddict · 16/04/2008 00:24

oops i always thought it was ok as long as it wasn't hotter than 39. we had one of those thermometer things and i thought that's what it said on the blurb on the back.

I've heard its okay up to 39 nappy so don't worry.

mumeeee · 17/04/2008 21:20

Just use your elbow.

SlightlyMadSweet · 17/04/2008 21:21

39 will be fine.

It will feel warm to bubs.

37 will actually start to feel cold to bubs by the time they get out if they are in for more than 5 mins (which is fine for a tiny newborn).

SlightlyMadSweet · 17/04/2008 21:23

shit this rather colourful site says 32C THATS COLD

SlightlyMadSweet · 17/04/2008 21:25

this one looks more sensible

It says
32C and below TOO COLD
35-38C JUST RIGHT
41C and above TOO HOT

TBH an elbow always worked for us.

nappyaddict · 18/04/2008 00:45

i ran ds' bath today as i normally would and decided to see how warm it was using the thermometer. it was 40. proves you do not need thermometers!

just bumping this for someone else who asked me. god knows why it's 40 degrees for bath water but 38 degrees for milk/food though.
