Not finishing bottles anymore

Hoping someone can offer some advice.

Little man is 6 months old now and since the heat last week, he has stopped finishing his bottles. I assumed it was just the heat but he's still doing it now it's cooled down.

He has been having breakfast for a few weeks and last week I started to give him some veg in the afternoon. I know he will start to drop some milk but I wasn't expecting him to cut down on his morning bottle. He used to consistently drink between 8-9oz, 5 times a day but now will have between 6-7oz instead. This is our routine:

7am - get up
7.30am - 6-7oz
8.30am - breakfast (porridge/yogurt)
11am - approx 7oz
2pm - approx 7oz
3pm - veg puree
5pm - approx 7oz
7.30pm - 8-9oz
Asleep by 8pm

Am I missing something? Do I need to change anything? He weighs around 18lb so I worry sometimes he's only getting the lower end of what he needs

Looks like he's getting a good amount especially as he's eating food. Obviously the milk in his porridge is going to count towards his daily amount. I think he's doing fine and I'm not surprised he's dropping a bottle really. Mine was the same because of the 5oz he'd get in his Weetabix

Thank you. I make his porridge with 1oz of his milk although since he's discovered yogurts, he's not really a fan of porridge anymore 😂 I think I would feel better if he drunk more of his morning bottle seeing as he's gone almost 12 hours without anything

You'd be exactly the same if he did have yoghurt because that's also a dairy item. I don't see a problem with yoghurt for breakfast at that age, just pop some mashed fruit in and it's a good meal 😁 honestly he sounds absolutely great to me though obviously if he started losing weight then obviously that would be the time to get him checked out. Keep doing what you're doing, you sound like a fab mom

Thank you 😊I struggle quite bad with anxiety so its getting me down. I'm just so confused. He's just had 7 1/4oz for his 2nd bottle but flat out refused to have it while I was holding him. Had to prop him on a pillow on the bed to get it to take it. This time last week his was absolutely brilliant with his bottles and it feels like someone has flipped a switch

He's growing up and wants to be independent. He might have a tooth coming or anything. As long as still getting plenty of wet and dirty nappies try not to worry. He also might loose a bit of weight once more active. My kids are all older and we're weaned by 4 months (as recommended back then) but you could try a bit of food in the afternoon, maybe a bit of toast or other finger food for him so such on.

At around the same age my DS became less interested in milk as he started eating more solids. So I think this is normal for some babies (although not all - some are still very keen on their milk at this age). Try not to worry OP - he sounds great to me.

Thanks everyone. I never thought feeding would be the thing I'd struggle with. I worry so much that he's not getting enough and won't continue to put weight on as much. I'm taking him to the baby clinic to be weighed tomorrow so we'll see what happens. We've just had a tough month what with colds and other things 😣

DD would go through wee phases like this and still does now she's 6! I think it depends how much she's growing at any given time. I wouldn't worry – so long as he's still having wet and dirty nappies, and is still active and awake, he'll be grand.

It's reassuring to hear things like this. Maybe he's gearing up for the 6 month growth spurt, I don't think we've had that yet! Quick one, do they tend to go off milk at all when they're learning new skills? I'm sure I've heard that somewhere but now I can't find anything. He's doing really well at sitting up on his own so wondered if that could be anything to do with it? 🤔
