Baby refusing feeds due to wind.. help!!

My baby is 10 and a half weeks old. He is formula fed and on his third formula as he was diagnosed with a CPMA around 4 weeks ago and now takes SMA Alfamino. Before he was pooping diarrhoea type mucus stools with some bloody tinges around 12 times per day. His tummy seems far more settled on the SMA Alfamino in that regard but he is eating far less than he was at 6 weeks old!

He has hardly ever taken full bottles. Whenever we try to up his intake, he still only takes up to 4oz at a time but for the last 2 weeks he has been taking between 1-2oz and then wriggling and crying in pain to get wind out the bottom end. Our doctor keeps saying he has silent reflux but honestly he barely has any of those types of symptoms and the behaviour he displays during/after feeds is 100% due to trapped wind he can't get out the bottom end as he screams trying to fart and moves his legs back and forth. He burps no problem but we still have issues.

He has dropped from 50th to 25th centile and continues to take under his daily recommended amount. He was prescribed omeprazole but he won't take it. We have used carobel on and off but it makes no difference and he once struggled to get his sick up due to the thickness, so that freaked us out especially when we made it even less than the "thin" recommendation! Gaviscon also but it was awful and just blocked the teats.

Since being on the SMA Alfamino, he poops once every day and a half to 2 days and constantly seems to be straining to poop or pass wind but rather than it just being the usual grunting he displayed weeks ago, he is now in pain due to trapped wind. When he finally manages to poop, it is still very soft and he usually seems more settled for a feed or two after he has had a blow out but then goes back to refusing his bottle due to trapped wind.

We have been back and forth to doctors who keep saying it'll settle in a few months and they're not concerned unless he goes down by 2 centiles but surely he will go down when he isn't eating much? And that does absolutely nothing to help him being in pain.

Yes we do all the exercises regularly and give him infacol. We tried gripe water but he projectile vomits it straight back out.

Has anyone else had experience with their baby not taking enough milk due to this? We have started giving him biogaia probiotic tonight to see if that makes him poop more regularly and relieve his wind. Has anyone had success with these?

Hi OP, sorry you're going through all this, very stressful. My LO didn't refuse her bottles but would scream her head off with discomfort from wind. I see you have your little fella on Infacol but have you tried Colief? That worked instantly for us. It made her poos much runnier whicheant more blowouts but it was worth it to see her not in pain!

My little one has cmpa and had really painful wind at that age. I know you've probably done all the bicycle legs and such but what worked for me was infacol as it makes the bubbles in the tummy smaller so easier to expel iyswim and holding him upright on chest with head on shoulder, gently bouncing up and down at the same time giving constant firm pats to his bottom. Sounds convoluted written down but honestly it was the only way I was able to make it move😅 really hope your little one feels better soon 😊

My little one had terrible wind and also wouldn't take her bottles in full ( she did drop 2 centiles) we'd tried similar to you with infacol etc and it transpired she had a tongue tie. She couldn't seal properly round the bottle and was therefore swallowing so much air it was making her very gassy and uncomfortable. I know you mentioned about cmpa too which we didn't have but just wanted to share my story of how we resolved our very gassy baby as it might be worth checking that too!
