Baby always cried when I pick them up from nursery

My baby's been going to nursery for 5ish months now, since she was around 4/5 months old. At first when I'd pick her up she'd be happy to see me or acknowledge me but carry on playing. The past few months she loses her mind when she sees me! Crying, arching her back, full meltdown the lot.

She has also done this when a family member or friend has looked after her, despite the fact they may not have looked after her before.

Is this normal?! I know she's 10 months old and it's clearly not an intentional thing but I hear so many lovely stories of babies being so happy to see their parents when they pick them up and I'm starting to feel so insecure about it.

She doesn't do it to Dad and I'd say our roles in her life are pretty equal as we both work full time jobs so I don't think it's because she's sick of me.., or is she?!? Sad

It’s completely normal. It means she has a healthy secure attachment to you. It’s just a bubbling up of emotion to see you. Babies can really only express big emotions through crying until they get a bit older, so being happy to see you comes out as tears. It’s very normal.

Baby will just be overwhelmed when she sees you, babies don't know how to express their feelings like we do

Thank you for your response. There's absolutely nothing about my relationship with her otherwise that makes me feel any type of insecurity. Shes wonderful and I love our bond... it's ONLY when I go to collect her. I hear what you're saying and it makes a lot of sense, I think I just need to sit snd allow myself to believe it Smile

Thanks. Do you have any suggestions for how I should handle her being so overwhelmed? Is there a "probably best not to do that" in these situations??!
