3 month old suddenly not sleeping!

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom or even just reassurance!

My 3 month old DD was a pretty good sleeper up until just a week ago (she would usually just wake up once for a feed around 3am and then up for the day around 6.30am). The last 5/6 days have been a bit of a nightmare Confused she has started waking up at around 1/1.30 having a full feed, being hard to put back down (usually very easy), waking again at around 4 for another feed. I can tell she wants to be asleep if that makes sense but seems to be struggling to get back off!

I know some people say you shouldn't feed to sleep but I can tell she is genuinely hungry as she is finishing or almost finishing a bottle when offered at these times. Does this sound like a growth spurt maybe? Yesterday she seemed very tired during the day also and spent more time than usual napping.

I know it's probably just a case of riding it out but I guess I'm just venting eek

Thanks!

What you are describing is really normal for 3 months and you've been very fortunate up untill now so it's come as a bit of a shock. It's also very hot if you're in the UK which can throw sleep patterns out. Things will settle again.

That sounds very familiar! My DS is 5.5 months, ever since 3 months his sleep has not been as good nor is he as easy to get to sleep. Between teething, weather, growth spurts and developmental leaps it seems to be common. Good news is these things come in dribs and drabs, there will be bad days and there will be good days. I'm patiently waiting for 6 months when things are meant to even out 😭

There is a sleep regression at this age so it could be that and also the heat can really mess things up for baby’s sleep. As frustrating as it is, it sounds totally normal but vent away because lack of sleep is the worst!

Sounds pretty normal as others have said. If you're in the UK it's been warmer than normal so she could be thirsty, you could try getting an extra feed in during the day?

There's also a growth spurt at 3 months so she could settle back down again soon.

I've never understood people telling you not to feed to sleep. She's so tiny still, why wouldn't you want to give her comfort? Flowers

Thanks for the reassurance everyone, glad to hear it's normal! I am indeed in the UK but going on holiday tomorrow when we hope to enjoy some air con - maybe that'll help!!

Definitely try getting an extra feed in during the day then and try and keep some of the smells familiar, so maybe use the sheets from her cot on the new cot without washing them?

As other have said there is a growth spurt at 3 months. Rule of thumb is they happen at the threes. So 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months.
Also developmental leaps - would recommend The Wonder Weeks app which helps you to understand what might be happening through your child's first year. And final thing is it could be 4 month sleep regression is starting early.
But overall, trust your gut, keep your child fed and comfortable and you'll get through it. Babies (and toddlers) work in mysterious ways!

@RappersNeedChapstick unfortunately my little girl isn't a big eater at the best of times so trying to get more in her is tricky! She does seem pretty hungry overnight at the moment which could well point to growth spurt!
