I always just used water

cmotdibbler · 14/04/2008 14:25

I'm lazy and buy the Northern Essence solution - smells lovely and works really well, even on sticky toddler poo.

FluffyDavis · 14/04/2008 15:46

I have also used the northern essence one, but when it run out just used water again.

Just water. If you use towelling wipes then they get the poo off.

Camomile tea if baby has nappy rash.

Anything else is just sales gimmick imo.

BigBadMouse · 14/04/2008 16:14

Exactly as flibbertyjibbet says.

Water is best for us as DD is total against anything cold on her bottom so I just run a cloth under the warm tap as I need it. Easy when out and about too - any change facilities without warm water for changer to wash their hands with isn't worth using IMO.

btw you may wish to avoid anything with tea tree / lavender oil if you have a DS - jury is still out as to whether they contribute to producing female traits in males.

oysterpots · 14/04/2008 17:20

What sort of 'female traits', BigBadMouse?

Octothechildherder · 14/04/2008 17:29

At the Baby Show at earls court bumgenius had a little bottle of spray which you squirt on the bum/wipe - bit of a con really but thought a squirty bottle was a good idea!

BigBadMouse · 14/04/2008 17:30

from new scientist

based on this piece of research

Other reseacrh has been done - lots of it -but this paper is the only one I can find right now

Octothechildherder · 14/04/2008 17:36

Yes - there were warnings about it a year or so ago. Told not to put in bath etc.

oysterpots · 14/04/2008 17:49

Crikey, very glad I stumbled on this thread. Thanks

Pannacotta · 14/04/2008 17:59

Whats the northern essence thing?
Keep meaning to make my own solution as dont change nappies in bathroom so using water is a hassle but never get roudn to it....

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 18:05

water with a bit of baby oil to make wipes softer. Chammomile tea. Almond oil if in the money.

cmotdibbler · 14/04/2008 19:25

Pannacotta- its really a sunflower oil plus stuff concentrate that makes a lovely foam.
I have made my own in the past, and not found it nearly as effective.

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 20:09

Might try this northern essence.Where do you buy it, and is it expensive?

tassisssss · 14/04/2008 20:13

I used warm water on my reusable wipes (tesco value facecloths) with ds.

I use baby lotion and lovely flannel on one side/fleece cloth things on the other.

BirthdayBabe · 14/04/2008 21:24

A mixture of liquid soap + lavender oil + olive oil + water.

MrsJamin · 15/04/2008 08:37

Camomile tea + a squirt of Orange Halo Baby Wash + a dollop of Walnut Oil - cleans runny breastfed poo off a treat using weenotions bamboo wipes Change every two days, it's really not a hassle or expensive, feels soooo much better than putting alcoholic or greasy on DS's bum. I'd second the lavender/tea tree oil warning - I don't think this is known about enough by cloth nappy users!
