Vaccines

Hi,

My baby today has just had his 8 week vaccinations.
For reference, he was born on 1st June 2024 so technically would be 2 months in 2 days time (1st August).
The nurse who did the vaccinations told me to give him calpol as soon as he has them and then another 2 doses 4-6 hours after each other.

However, I have seen to not give calpol to babies under the age of 2 months. My baby is not 2 months old for another 2 days technically even though he is over 8 weeks.

He has already had 1 dose of calpol after the injections but is he ok to have another dose even though he is not 2 months old?

Yes, I would give the calpol as the MenB vaccine can cause a high temperature and the calpol is to help stop that happening. It's likely to be safer to give it that not to give it.

Yourethebeerthief · 30/07/2024 18:54

Give him the calpol

OhLookAnotherDay · 30/07/2024 18:56

It's fine. What if this month had been February?

wouldn't vaxx my child, don't feel it's necessary and also better to let them decide when older.

You can give calpol to babies for their vaccines, yes. It’s recommended.

lastgreat · 30/07/2024 19:01

Yes OP give it. It's fine at 8 weeks.

Any loving rational parent would protect their baby from potentially lethal diseases. The OP has done the right thing.

Oh, and yes, fine to give the calpol.

And school. You forgot school. Let them decide if they want to be educated.

let's not be silly school is a necessity whereas vaccine is an option, it's illegal to not send your child to school.

Wolfiefan · 30/07/2024 19:08

@BlueskiesForEyes I wasn’t vaccinated as a child. GP said not to due to heath issues. I had the actual illnesses instead. I was lucky to come out the other end unscathed. My kids are vaccinated.

Let's hope they don't contract one of the diseases the vaccine protects from and leaves them unable to "decide when older" then eh?

@lchandlerxx have you decided to give the Calpol? Baby might feel quite unwell without it Flowers

Sidge · 30/07/2024 21:17

@lchandlerxx you must give the Calpol so I hope you have. It’s been given under medical advice post immunisations and is very important.

In imms terms we work in weeks rather than calendar months usually so go on what you’ve been told.

Yes I gave the calpol and he's due a 3rd dose at around midnight tonight.

My doctor told me they are to have 3 doses (1 straight after the vaccinations then 2 further doses but 4-6 hours apart)

To help prevent or treat a high temperature, it's recommended you give your baby child's paracetamol after their MenB vaccinations at 8 weeks and 16 weeks old.

You'll need to give your baby 3 doses of paracetamol. Give them 1 dose as soon as possible after being vaccinated, give them a 2nd dose 4 to 6 hours later, and a 3rd dose 4 to 6 hours after that.

Make sure you leave at least 4 hours between each dose and do not give them more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

The thing about not using under 2 months is so that parents don't blithely go round using it in new babies for pyrexia of unknown origin, without considering the possibility of late onset neonatal sepsis. This is a totally different situation, because the baby has a good reason for needing the paracetamol. Under medical advice, paracetamol can be safely used from day one of life. For instance, I've prescribed it before now for babies with sore heads after instrumental deliveries.

Is that before or after they’ve gone blind from catching measles?

Love that you have just shown how uninformed you are. None of my dc have been to school, it is not illegal at all. They are all vaccinated though.

OP it’s fine, hope your little one is nice and settled for you. My eldest is a teen and had the HPV vaccine yesterday and I still worry about these things even though he is bigger than me and can tell me if he feels ill!
