8 month old tantrums!

This is a lighthearted one but interested to see if anyone knows what I mean!

My little one is turning 8 months old next week and my god he's started throwing some tantrums 😅 he's the happiest little boy, sleeps great, eats great, smiles/laughs/giggles nearly every minute of the day... unless he does his Hulk routine! It happens if I don't give him something he wants to hold (normally it's something he's seen while I'm carrying him around like a knife or a frying pan!), or if I pass him the wrong food item off his plate, or if he can't reach the toy he wants... he EXPLODES! He doesn't cry, in fact I genuinely can't remember the last time he actually cried, but my god he stiffens his limbs, alternates kicking his legs out like he's Sonic, attempts to throw himself backwards, and makes VERY LOUD animal type grunting noises! I'm a pretty patient person so I'll generally just try and stifle a smile, and then he's very easily pacified by me singing a silly song or blowing raspberries on him!

So all in all I'm more amused by it than anything else but please tell me you have experience something similar!

He’s not having a seizure is he?

MaltipooMama · 29/07/2024 17:18

@Sugarlily oh no nothing like that, it's literally just in that moment because something is annoying/frustrating him and I can always pinpoint exactly what it is, and then as soon as I do a silly voice, sound, song etc he immediately reverts back into smiling and laughing

Yep my DD is getting to be the same, she has her water bottle but if she can't hold mine we have a tantrum, if she can't have my toothbrush instead of hers we have a tantrum, if she can't get me to hold her arms and walk her around, we have a tantrum. Not looking forward to the terrible two's at this rate! Luckily she is also easily distracted with a song or mummy eating her tummy.

@justsayso oh god yes the dummy one, mine loves that too! It all came as a bit of a shock to me, I didn't think I needed to prepare for this for another year or so 😅

My almost 8mo is the same 😂 I dare to eat a bite of my own food and all he'll breaks loose. He rarely cries anymore, it's kind of shifted to him basically babble yelling at me. Shouldn't be funny but it is.

EllieRosesMammy · 29/07/2024 21:05

My 3rd born was/is the same, her tantrums started so young we were really surprised because the other two were nothing like it till they were a bit older😅 I love her to death but I do often say if she was my 1st I'm not sure I'd of had any more, because my god is she a handful🤣

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 29/07/2024 21:06

Mine is the same hahaha
No i can't let you grab the cat / my glasses / a drinks glass / crawl off the bed

He's just so indignant it's very endearing

MaltipooMama · 30/07/2024 08:23

Well I'm glad to know it's not just my little one that's for sure 😅 @Wavescrashingonthebeach I agree about finding it endearing, he's my first/only child so it's amazing seeing his personality come through! So funny reading the reasons why they're stropping as well, bless them ❤️
