CMPA - Are these symptoms?

I am really struggling to get anyone to take my concerns about my DS seriously, he is 14 weeks old and I think he has CMPA but can’t get a doctor to agree.

His main symptoms are;

Slow weight gain, he weighs under 11lb and has gone from 9th to 2nd centile
Bad eczema
Reflux and discomfort when feeding, he will scream during or after his feeds (formula fed)
Vomiting, sometimes hours after feeding
Wind and tummy ache

I had CMPA as a baby as well and don’t tolerate milk very well now.

His nappies seem to be mostly normal with the occasional runny poop but no mucus so the doctor won’t make a diagnosis.

If anyone successfully has a diagnosis how did you go about it? Is it worth going privately? Feeding times are so stressful and his eczema is awful, I just want to get to the bottom of it.

With those symptoms I would expect a trial of dairy free formula. Is your HV any better than GP? You could also try the infant feeding team.
Failing that you can buy the formula. They are pricey but if you got one and they were better the GP might prescribe it for you then.
Pepti and nutramigen are usually the go to of the extensive hydrolysed formulas.

If you want to go private look up your local private hospital a pick a paediatrician. You should get in pretty quickly. We saw one when my daughter was about 8 months old more for her reflux than her allergies but he did find her a formula that was safe for her. She has a coconut allergy as well as cmpa and soya and after prescribing 3 formulas with coconut in our gp gave up and we had lost faith in their ability to read ingredients. We had an appointment the evening that I made the enquiry and we had a full hour with them. Afterwards the NHS paediatrician agreed with the treatment plan so we only had the one off appointment privately. We had a few issues getting a medication prescribed as it could only be prescribed by a consultant and there was an admin error where the private prescription went AWOL so we had to wait for the letter from the paediatrician for the GP to prescribe the medication. In hindsight I should have made a gp appointment to go through the recommendations and the prescriptions rather than rely on the messages being passed on by the reception staff. They said I didn't need to speak to a GP to have the actions actioned so if you do go private I would recommend getting a GP appointment so that all the information is passed directly to the GP and not by a third party!

@Superscientist our health visitor is brilliant and she pushed for the initial reflux diagnosis and has also been coming to our house to weigh DS every fortnight. My GP are usually great as well but we keep getting triaged to a nurse or nurse practitioner and they’ve been really quick to dismiss anytime I’ve brought up milk allergies because I think his nappies are normal.

You could be describing my cmpa baby
I went private at 8 weeks.
Best money i spent. Once we got on the right formula everything got easier.

If you are near london we went to see dr neil shah - he was great

At the time of diagnosis my daughter haf normal nappies. It was only when they improved I retrospectively realised they weren't. The being unsettled and the reflux were the factors that pointed to cmpa.
I would call your HV and get their advice and then call the GP and say "my HV says this" it helped me get through triage a few times.
My GP told me categorically my daughter didn't react to anything in my diet. 4 months later when I had figured it all out myself she commended me on doing it without any support. I don't think she knew the difference between lactose intolerance and cmpa based on some of her comments. I was breastfeeding which was easier in this prediagnosis period although ultimately it wasn't sustainable and my daughter ended up on an amino acid formula. It was my HV that told me to just go for it and see what happens.

We did aptimil 1 pepti (this is partially hydrogelised for intolerant babies) then moved on to alfamino (fully hydrogelised)
As nutrimigen had supply issues
