DS before school?

DD is in Primary 2. Ever since she started P1 we banned television before school because she used to wake up early just to watch and then would moan and complain about turning it off/getting dressed etc. These days she gets up, gets herself dressed/teeth brushed and even empties the dishwasher for me then asks if she can play on her DS while she waits for me to come down and get breakfast ready. I can't think of a single good reason to say no except that I worry about her spending too much time on it during the course of the day. Just wondering what other MNers think?

I'd say no. If you agree it won't be long until she is saying - "oh I'll get dressed in a minute, I'm just finishing this game."

I can't see the problem. If she knows she is only allowed once she is dressed and ready to o, and whilst waiting for yu - what's the problem? The first time she messes about and doesn;t put it away when asked, next day there is no DS.

Agree with Hula.

Tv/DS/Wii allowed only when they're ready for school.

Great incentive to get ready.

Our schedule is too tight to allow for distractions ! If you do at the first sign of fuss , stop, and never after breakfast when you are trying to leave the house.

I have an irrational ban on early morning screen based games. Irrational because I don't have a problem with them watching TV IF they are completely ready (down to shoes) and have packed their bags and had their breakfast.

But I am allowed to be irrational - I'm a grown up!

Oh, and if when I say "Time to go" they come IMMEDIATELY. If this doesn't happen then there's no TV the next day.

oh, and she makes her bed herself. She tends to get up around 7 and doesn't have to be ready to leave the house until about 8:20 so she's got plenty of time and usually ends up sitting around waiting for me to be ready.

The thing is, between the tv, the computer and now the DS there's so many things I feel like I 'should' be putting a limit on. But then it's not as if she doesn't also spend time playing outside/reading/drawing etc as well so is it really that bad?
