If not a Moses basket downstairs, then what?

We have got a SnuzPod for next to the bed and we were planning a Moses basket for downstairs, but I’ve seen so many threads saying they’re a waste of money. In that case, what do we use downstairs? I’ll be having a c-section so think I will need something to settle the baby in that isn’t at floor level?

I know the bassinet of the SnuzPod comes off but it’s heavy and clunky and I won’t be able to carry it up and down the stairs.

I used the bassinet from my pram on a stand. You could just as easily leave it on the pram chassis though. I bought a pram that was safe for overnight sleep (not all are) so I could relax when DD was in there.

We used a carrycot bit of the pram and then a reclined buggy as they got older

Ah that’s a good idea. Yes, ours is suitable for occasional overnight sleeping. Do the bassinets tend to fit on a Moses stand?

There’s often lots of people giving away Moses basket or reselling them so get one and buy a new mattress for them. Personally we found a Moses basket downstairs to be really useful; even when not asleep it was somewhere soft and cosy (and safe) to put DC down in while i ate, has a cup of tea etc. We used to just out the basket on the floor rather than use a stand downstairs as it doesn’t matter if it’s floor level

We used a Maxi Cosi Swift downstairs. It's a play pen and travel cot but also has a bassinet attachment at the top for then the baby is younger meaning they are much higher up when sleeping, saving you from having to bend down. We still use it now as a travel cot and our son is nearly 3 so it's been a good investment 👍

I use the moses basket more then next to you crib at the moment 😅 it rocks, I pass out on the sofa usually so can rock him with my foot.

I'm dreading when he outgrows it..

I used a travel cot for downstairs. It meant that it would grow with him and when he was first trying to crawl etc gave me a safe space to put him whilst making his milk.

I loved the Moses basket, I bought two! One upstairs and one downstairs. Ours wouldn’t sleep in the snuzpod as I think they liked the snugness of the basket. We went straight from Moses basket to main cot. I found the Moses basket so portable. Easily carried between rooms when they’re asleep and you want to get in with things. Brought out into the garden for some fresh air.

People are always giving them away (about to do the same with ours), just get a new mattress.

My DS thought his Moses basket was the Oubliette of Doom and would not go in it under any circumstances. He napped in a Baby Bjorn bouncer.

We had a Moses basket downstairs, they're not that expensive if you don't want a super fancy one.
Or with my second she slept well in her pram basinette in the living room so we usually put her in there

Get a Moses basket second hand as others have said, our girl loves hers and liked to chill in it even when she was a bit old to nap in it. It’s all she would sleep in as a newborn

westcountrywoman · 28/07/2024 11:04

I just used the pram downstairs. There was room to wheel it in the back door and park it in the kitchen. I kept some disposable shower caps by the back door (like you get in a hotel) to pop over the wheels when wet or muddy.

We had a full size cot in our bedroom from birth and dd napped in there. We had a flat with no upstairs so I just stayed in the bedroom during naps and napped, or used my phone/tablet. When we were out she just napped in a lie flat buggy.

mindutopia · 28/07/2024 11:53

Mine just slept on me when that little or in a sling.

But otherwise, on a mat on the floor, on a blanket on the sofa with me sitting right there watching, or in the bouncer. Or if we were out for a walk, I just pushed the pushchair right into the house. Even with a c-section, you’ll be fine to get down on the floor and lift baby after a few weeks.

Had 2 dc never had a moses basket.
Had some kind of swing with first which I wouldn't use again. With 2nd just put him in the pram x
