how to help 13mo DS over sickness bug?

DS has had D&V since weds eve. I'm trying to keep him hydrated, but he'll only take what he wants and isn't really interested in water at all - offering formula, but very dilute mix. I've been offering bland food, just toast, rice pud, plain yogurt, but he brings it back up whenever he has anything. - He's only sick after he's eaten something and isn't sick in-between, so I've not offered anything other than weak milk since lunchtime. Nappies still wet (stools - loose, yellow and whipped cream like - sorry TMI!).

Is there any point taking him to the Drs tomorrow? i don't want to spread the bug (or have him pick up anything else when he's so weak), or should I just ride it out and hope it gets better soon. Is it normal for a stomach bug to last this long? - finished BF just over a month ago, so sadly that's not an option. any suggestions for what to offer him to help him get over this and build his strength up? TIA.

This is exactly what happened to us a month ago (ds was 13 months then too!).
They said to me not to worry unless he has blood in the stool. But I think the vomiting was on and off over a week and the diarrhoea lasted about 2 weeks. Poor thing lost lots of weight, but has put it all back on now.

After a day of almost starvation and water to let his stomach rest, I fed him only carbs (bread sticks, organix corn puff thingies, a small bit of toast, a small bit of potato, biscuits) . Little and often. Limited his milk to 4oz at a go. And offered lots of sips of water. He go to the point where he was constantly 'snacking' - he was ravenous, but if I gave him a small meal, his stomach wouldnt tolerate it.

After he kep the constant snacking down, I gradually introduced small (balanced) meals.
It can last a while - I know a few people whose lo's had it for over a week.

Get dioralyte (can't spell it) dehydration fluids from the chemist I had to syringe it in to my DD with a nurofen syringe - syringe in water in the meantime. I wouldn't offer him food until he wants it. Not sure what to do about the formula as I'm still BFing. Its been going on quite a while now I would go to the doctor my DD had loose poos for over a week at a similar age.

my ds 17mth has just got over this.

had 3 days of sickness then changed to the other end for 4-5 days.

i did take him to the docs who said not to worry about getting food into him if he wasn't showing interest. Keep offering fluids little & often and bland food once his appetite returned

Hope your lo is better soon x

thanks devonmummy, seems like there's loads of it going round, just gets worrying when it's been a few days and no sign of getting better, thanks for the reassurance.
