Time on tablet

Hi

My daughter has just finished year 4, and have recently noticed that she does not know her times table. We are paying for 1:1 lessons for her to gain confidence in maths. The tutor has given her homework to learn her 3 times table by next lesson. My daughter is reluctant to do this. I have said there is no tablet time until she does this - am I being too hard?

We found some time tables songs on YouTube. It helped our kids.

I would allow screen time if she has done her homework and she makes progress. And you might need to assist her to do so if she is hesitates. It can be so hard work for some children to get hold of.

I agree, no homework: no tablet time. She needs to practice her times tables everyday. Repetition is the key. She needs to do 10 minutes a day. I won't kill her.

How is she learning them?

I wonder because my daughter's school teaches it very visually rather than by singing. I found it very strange.

There are songs games and quizzes in bitessize.

10 minutes of times tables practice every day helps so much. My son had not really learned them and began getting frustrated that others were moving ahead faster at school. He started doing 10 minutes a day religiously and he got better so quickly. Our school provided a subscription to times table rockstars, so that is on a screen, but it does work wonders.
