Visiting family in another country with 5 months old

We currently have a 9 week old (and a 2years 10months toddler) and we live in the UK. My family cannot travel at the moment because of some work and health reasons. We were thinking to visit our family and friends from our country of origin (Romania) sometime in October as during summer and early autumn the weather is scortching hot there and our youngest would be around 5 months by then and will have had 2 rounds of vaccines. However we are concerned that he is still too young to get in contact with so many strangers, new country viruses and when you search online things like chickenpox or other diseases they cannot have vaccines for until they are older, you find out these can be dangerous for babies. When we visit all our friends want to meet with us, they have children as well and exposure can be high. Are we being too careful and 5mo is old enough for a healthy baby to be able to deal with viruses and new germs? Obviously we would exercise all the good practices of washing hands before touching the baby, no kissing him (except my mother which I won't be able to restrain I am sure) etc. We did not have this problem with our first since when he was younger than one year the covid restrictions were still in place and people wouldn't travel too much. We only traveled for holiday when he was 1.5yo I'm interested to know what parents think about this topic. Thanks!

If I was breastfeeding I'd go. I'd bottle, I'd give it a lot more thought.

Personally i travelled with mine younger than that including long haul flights to see family. I think you are being very cautious, but only you can make that call. I don't know what the situation is in your home country regarding vaccination levels, disease prevalence

In term of diseases prevalence and vaccination is pretty much the same as UK and all our friends and relatives' children have had all the recommended vaccines.

I’d go and not think twice about it. We do extended family holidays to DH’s home country every summer and due to the timing of their birthdays DD was 10 weeks the first time and DS was 5 months. I’d get it if you didn’t want to go for financial reasons, or because plane travel is a bit of a pain with young kids but all that infection control stuff wouldn’t have entered my head.
