What can I get DD for 3rd birthday?

DD will be turning 3 soon. She's very into messy play, being in the garden (plenty of garden toys already!), Frozen, dressing up and loves to learn.
She likes pretend play, not so much dolls.
Just really struggling, I have a balance bike on my list but not much else as I don't want to buy for the sake of it, I like to get things she'll actually play with enjoy!

Can't you just get the bike? I may be an unnatural parent, but I bought DS one pair of trousers and a helium balloon for his 3rd birthday - I knew he'd be getting presents from other people and it doesn't take many at that age to reach saturation level.

TinyTeachr · 24/07/2024 13:47

Seconding one or two presents being enough. My eldest got a balance bike plus helmet and knee pads. Lots of presents doesn't equal more hapinness at that age.

Watching for ideas, my dd turns 3 soon. Her older sister has all the usual stuff already so really struggling with what to get her. Giant floor puzzles and orchard games are a big hit in our house if you don't already have some.

My DD had some magnetic tiles for her 3rd birthday. She's 4 now and still plays with them a lot and we have added to them so she can build bigger things now etc x

Godesstobe · 24/07/2024 18:10

My DD loved her Brio trainset at that age. Also lots of books.

Dressing up box
Yoto player
Magnet tiles
Dollhouse

PopcornAndGummyBears · 24/07/2024 18:15

If she likes pretend play then how about a toy kitchen/mud kitchen, or a toy school set, or toy post office set.

Or you could get a baking kit (I’d actually make my own with child sized bowls and utensils rather than buying a pre-packaged set) and a wee cook book with easy recipes. My DC all started helping in the kitchen at around that age and loved to bake - no bake traybakes and simple
cakes and cookies etc

My dd turns 3 in a few months and we are thinking if getting her one of those wooden tables with the train tracks on top and drawers. She also adores dinosaurs.

JumpinJellyfish · 24/07/2024 18:42

Yoto player is an amazing gift. Got it for my DS for Christmas at 3.5 and at 6 it is still his most used thing - listens every night before bed and often during the day. 3 yo DC2 loves it too (they share a room).

Otherwise bike is great. Both my kids had balance bikes for 2nd birthday and pedal bike for 3rd birthday.

DD had some pretend food for her third birthday which she played with quite a bit. It was from Melissa & Doug.

PurBal · 24/07/2024 19:20

Magnatiles, kinetic sand.

My lo just turned 3, biggest hits have been a vet set, a big wooden shop with food/tills/ money & shopping bags.
The bike ( not a balance bike she hated that)
She loves a waffle squishmallow !
And a singing coffee cup 🤣
Among loads of other stuff they are the biggest hits.

BuzzKiller · 24/07/2024 19:38

duplo, a wooden vet set, or play food (the veg you cut with Velcro etc) is our dc’a favourite toys at the moment.
also a new bedtime book is always a nice addition (dc obsessed with all Julia Donaldson and mr men/little miss books at the moment)

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 24/07/2024 19:46
