Hand/wrist twirling

My 8 month old has always been very handsy and tenses her body when excited but someone has pointed out to me this can be a sign of autism. She twirls her wrists a lot and kicks out her feet which I just put down to her little personality.

She is rolling, trying to get onto all fours (bless her) babbling and saying “mamamama/dadadad” and I had no concerns until now but I suppose this has made me slightly anxious and I am a lot more aware when she does it. She also holds her hands in front of her face and almost inspects them.

Any experience with this? Another friend told me all completely normal behaviour for babies but the other is telling me to keep an eye on it.

Advice appreciated x

I could have written this myself. DD was 8 months last Sunday. She twirls her wrists a lot, not something I noticed in my older daughter. I have wondered if this is a sign of Autism.

She was sitting at 6 months, says Mamma and can clap her hands. She has always had very good hand eye coordination and could get a spoon to her mouth very early. She laughs and smiles a lot, especially with family. Less so with strangers.

She's not crawling yet but my older daughter was 9.5 months.

The hands thing is the only hint at it for me at the moment x

Ah my little boy is doing this at 7 months! It does have me a bit worried...how is your little one now?
