Reusable nappy problem

been using reusables with DS (now 2). Problem is when he does a poo it dosen't stay on liner but goes all over nappy. Have tried fleece liners and disposable ones. Poo never just washes off in toilet flush! End up having to rinse whole nappy and spray with vanish as I dry pail. I find this a bit yucky as my DS's poos are pretty substantail. Any advice? I have naughtily been resorting to pampers a bit too much recently

are your liners the whole length of the nappy?

I make my own fleece liners so they fit the whole of the inside of the nappy this works for me

no, i never got the whole flushing the poo off thing either, used to have to rinse it off under the tap quite often.
never used vanish though, poo stains never hurt anyone lol

Sounds like your liners either aren't big enough or aren't staying in place.

I use mainly fleece but at times resort to flushable ones when things get too much IYSWIM . I make my own fleece liners as the ones I have bought are just not wide enough. I make mine so they hang over the edge of the nappy (stops you getting poo in the cracks between the elastic) and also so that they fan up at the front and the back of the nappy. Hourglass shape is not much use for us. It doesn't matter if your fleece liner is outside the nappy as long as it is inside the wrap. With regards to washing the liner off I sometimes use loo roll to get the worst off, other times a stretch of the fleece is enough to get the worst bits off. I find it is harder to deal with if I haven't caught the dirty nappy quicky enough. I also do a cold rinse wash before I do the proper wash. When I use paper liners I use these thick ones they hold their position better.

Suprised you don't get leaks with pampers with your 'troubles' we always do.

BBM do you make them so they hang over at the ends aswell as the sides iyswim?

BigBadMouse · 12/04/2008 23:44

um....my cutting skills are not exact - some hang over the ends, but that wasn't neccessarily the plan at the time! They still work fine and I guess, at times, having them right up to the end of the nappy has been a bonus. I just make sure everything stays tucked inside the wrap. Hanging over the sides is far more important for us as that is where the nappy gets most 'challenged' IYSWIM. If my liners are too thin cut between the legs then the nappy cleaning becomes much more of a task.
