7 month old not so interested in milk

My just turned 7 month old has been EBF since birth. He’s jumped from the 25th centile at birth to the 98th at a whopping 23lbs.

I started weaning him at six months and increased meals in the last week or so to 2 a day instead of 1.

This boy has gone from being a milk fiend and having long feeds every couple/few hours to not really being very interested and only having a few very short milk feeds a day and having one big feed before bed.

I can already tell when he wants food by the way he behaves when he’s hungry but doesn’t want boob, and he smacks the high chair in excitement when he sees his spoon and bowl.

Is it ok that’s he’s dropped his milk feeds so drastically? He is great with water as he has this too with meals and a little bit through out the day too

It's probably just a phase, keep offering BF and he'll get back into it. He sees solid food as fun, which is great. They're easily distracted from BF at this age aren't they. If you're worried about nutrition, just add cows milk and cheese etc into his food.

As an aside, my son is the exact same age and similar weight, what are the chances. He's wearing 12-18mo clothing...!

Oh wow haha. Yes, he’s been in 12-18 month for a while but shorts tend to be too tight around the waist, so we’re going up a size now 😅

Ah we're mostly using sleepsuits and dungarees partly for that reason! Because he's shaped like a rugby ball with limbs lol.

We're not doing two proper meals a day yet, so far weaning has just been giving him a taste of whatever is soft and non-salty enough on our plate, and handing him a stick of celery to gnaw on, the occasional bit of porridge in the mornings when we remember. I'll have to step it up at some point! He's like yours, gets excited about food. Hoping he'll be less of a fussy eater than my dd.

Before 1 food is just for fun. The literiture states number 1 should be milk. Either breast or formula. It could be a phase but I would raise it with HV as he is 7 months just to get advice.

DS2 dropped his milk drastically after starting weaning and even now, at 3, doesn't really like milk (or his variations on milk being LF) and literally has it on cereal and that's it. I just increased the calcium rich foods he was having to compensate for the milk he wasn't getting. Couldn't exactly force it down his neck so just had to find alternatives.

When we had this at 7 months, the HV suggested upping the amount of dairy food we gave eg not just giving a rice cake but giving a rice cake with cream cheese on, giving “crisps” dipped in cream cheese, giving yoghurt as a dessert with every meal etc
