Baby carrier and sun exposure - Newborn

Took LO out a short while ago whilst it was cloudy with the baby carrier. When we were a few minutes from home the sun came out and tried my best to cover his legs (had a hat on so face/eyes were covered).

Should I be concerned at the potential of a few minutes of sunlight on his leg that I couldn’t prevent.

9 weeks old currently.

how else do people manage with the baby carrier whilst being out?

I really wouldn't be worrying about a few mins of English sun at tea time.
But if so, just tuck a big thin muslin into the top of the carrier so it drapes over the baby

I'm sure it didn't do your baby any harm as it was only a few minutes. I used to bring an umbrella with me on hot days and use it as a parasol over me and baby.

Also, the advice not to use sunscreen on tiny babies is largely because they don't want to endorse tiny babies being in the sun for long periods of time. Once I learned that, I started to be more comfortable putting some mineral (not chemical) baby sunscreen on my baby's legs when going out, and just being mindful of how long he was out in the heat

I wouldn't worry about this at any time, just pack a large light muslin for any prolonged periods in the sun. A few minutes is fine, even good.

Until 6 months old when he could wear suncream I never bared his skin in intense sunlight. Cool clothing but long on the arms and legs. Hat for his head. After 6 months the suncream was always in the bag during the summer.

Wouldn't worry me in the slightest.

A little bit of sun is good for natural vitamin D.

Just as long as no sun burn!
