Hair styles / bobbles that won't break my kid's long hair

Hi all, my DD(4) has long hair (her choice). We put it up every day for practicality. To keep it out of her face, we normally put it up in one or two half ponytails to hold back the front part of the hair, and then in a plait or ponytail for the bottom (e.g. see picture). I realised the other day that she has loads of broken hairs at just the level where the top bobbles go😕, so big chunks of hair escape the bobbles and form this halo around her face.
Her hair is quite silky so just doing one big plait at the back tends to not stay in through a whole day of school.
Does anyone have any tips for neat and practical hair styles for long hair that won't damage it?
Thanks!

Do the bobbles you currently use have metal bits? Plastic ones that coil are good for stopping breakage, or if the ones you are using have the metal bits try ones without.

No they don't have metal on them. We've tried the coil ones but somehow we seem to always manage to get into a huge tangle with them! Is there a trick to using them?!

French or Dutch plaits? They're quite easy to get the hang of with a little practice, and starting really small at the forehead should keep the shorter pieces plaited in most the day.

I have long hair and I use spiral hair pins to keep it on a neat bun. I need to have to out of the way in the lab and this is the best way I have found.
French plait pigtails might stay in better and I would try to pull smaller amounts of hair up each time which should make it less likely to fall out.

Thanks for the replies! I do try french/dutch plaits but my technique could definitely improve so I should probably practice that more. Gathering in small bits of hair each time is a good tip.
@Superscientist I haven't come across spiral hair pins before. Do you mean something like this? https://www.etsy.com/listing/1000697639/10-pcs-wholesale-metal-hairpincabochon?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=spiral+hair+pins&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&pro=1&content_source=b1f7f57de1c9889f2c05c663146b596a9994d7ef%253A1000697639&organic_search_click=1

Yes that's them. You swirl your hair into a bun and then you twist them into the hair like a corkscrew. For thick hair you will probably want two in perpendicular to one another so one across and one down.
My hair is waist length and in bun with a bobble the middle bit falls out as I get multiple loops and this holds through the hair. I have fine hair and haven't have any issues with breakages.
I find to keep my hair in good condition I need to sleep in a plait too. It gets very matted if I don't and then I get breakages when trying to brush it out.
