Help! Baby hysterical after MMR jab this morning

My LO is 13 months old and had his MMR and 3 other jabs today at 9.30. He was hysterical afterwards and it took about 30 mins to calm him down enough to get him in the car and drive home. He had a long nap and some food and water when he woke up. Then seemed fine for a while but gradually got more and more upset and then suddenly was hysterical, he felt hot to touch so gave calpol at 5ml. I tried to take his temperature but he was so hysterical and kept wriggling that it was pretty hard to get a proper reading.
He was then hysterical for about 45 mins and has now fallen asleep on me. (Lots of skin to skin and breastfeeding to try settle him)
His legs look red and swollen where he had the jabs.

Has anyone else had this reaction with their LOs 1 year vaccines? He was so hysterical he couldn’t catch his breath - I actually have never seen him like that apart from the moment he was born!! I suspect he’ll be inconsolable again when he wakes he’s just not right at all and I’m worried

The MMR can leave them feeling a bit out of sorts. Plenty of calpol, plenty of cuddles and see how he gets on. If you really feel it’s not normal behaviour, don’t hesitate to contact your GP. They would rather reassure you, than leave you at home worrying

Thanks @Soubriquet I’ll see how he is when he wakes up. Absolutely hate to see him so distressed

OP, it's more likely that it's the Meningitis B jab he had this morning that's distressing him now.
The MMR reaction tends to follow in 7-10 days.
Lots of cuddles, breast feeding and calpol. It'll settle.
In 7-10 days time, he may get a temp, very irritable, possible rash ( a virus-type presentation is common). Just a heads up to keep stocked up with Calpol and ibuprofen syrup.
This is all really normal and shows that his little body is responding well to the vaccination.
But it can be horrible and distressing to watch. X

Check to see if he's got a rash, if he has ring the GP for some advice, it's nothing to worry about, but it might mean he's a bit sensitive to the jab, and the GP will need to know. My LO looked liked they had awful sunburn from the jab,
(Initially a small red patch, but 6 hours later whole thigh resembled a cooked lobster colour) and very hot to touch, I can't remember the advice I was given as my LO is now a gangly teen, currently gaming in bedroom! No problem with subsequent inoculations.

Thanks for the reassurance and yes this makes sense- he had a high temperature after his first meningitis vaccine and we struggled to get it down with Calpol.
I gave him a dose of nurofen at 8.30 but his temperature is still high and he got really hysterical again so just gave more Calpol. I’m a bit concerned the nurofen didn’t do the trick

Thank you I will keep an eye out for any rash. Luckily no rash as of now the site of the injections do still look red and tender though - 4 in the one day seems a lot. My friend is in Ireland and they do two one day and then two a few weeks later, probably not so painful for this way

My daughter has a strong reaction to the menB vaccine. When she had it at 4 months she screamed inconsolably to the point we couldn't dress her so she was just in a nappy even though it was snowing! We were seen in paeds and there was nothing wrong as such just lots of Calpol, ibuprofen and cuddles. It last 3 days.
Due to this we had the 12 months jabs 1 at a time and she did the same with the menB but slightly less intense and we didn't need to be seen by GP/paeds
