Baby’s 10 Month Review is a group appointment?

My baby has his 10 Month Review coming up later this month. It says on the letter that’s it’s a ‘group appointment’, which seems odd for an appointment which is at least partly medical! Has anyone else encountered this? I don’t know what to expect.

No experience from me as DD is only 8 months but if I got info saying it was a group appointment I would call to query and tell them I'm not happy to discuss confidential, medical information in front of strangers. I'd tell them unless it is 1 to 1 then I won't be attending.

Hopefully it's just a typo or means something else?

I once had a group midwife appointment and it was dreadful - I think they wanted to give us an opportunity to meet and build a support network, but it was really cringy.

I’d check the format, abd if it really is a group thing I’d swerve.

I’d ring and check and then tell them that you want a 1:1 , how on earth can they do a proper check in a group setting

Are you sure it’s a review and not more of a meet up? I was offered something like this at 3m and will be at 6m too. No medical details discussed, just a group chat and a chance to meet other mums. I don’t remember having a 3m appointment at all for my daughter 5 years ago so this is an extra. Maybe that’s what this is and the review bit is done separately??

Thanks everyone☺️ The wording is pretty unambiguous. It’s referred to as a ‘group appointment’ which will be ‘an opportunity to meet other parents’. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s strange!

I can only assume the children’s services are stretched very thin and offering group appointments is simpler. I’ll call tomorrow to check anyway!

Friends had this after covid (assume because they were so behind with appts). 3 review appts happening in the same room. Unless its a social, no way would I be keen on this. How are you supposed to feel comfortable discussing medical details/ pnd/ development concerns?!

Our recent 27 month check was a group appointment.

There weren't loads of us- maybe 5 or 6 children. They observed them playing for a while and then took each parent/child aside to go through their questionnaires. It was in a large room with play mats set up and lots of chatter so noone could hear what was being said. Also, as it was in a health centre I would have felt comfortable asking to move to a private room or area, if I wanted to discuss anything confidential.

If you feel uncomfortable with it there's certainly no harm in asking for an individual appointment though?
