Second night away in center parcs, baby hates travel cot DS is 17 months old.

He goes to bed well at home, he has used this cot last year and no problems and a couple of times a few months ago at MIL's.

He cries as soon as he is in it and i have to get him to sleep in my bed and transfer. It takes hours

Any advice! It's ruining our evenings on holiday!!!

I can remember taking our DS away at a similar age and him wanting to sleep with us. I. The end we caved and he slept between us.

Don't know how many other beds etc you've got but the first time I just had baby in bed with me and husband slept in the other room with the eldest.

Second time we moved some beds to a side and put a mattress on the floor to make a floor bed.

Both of mine have hated travel cots!

Have you tried the cot that center parcs provide? It's usually a fold up cot kept in the storage cupboard. It might be comfier than a travel cot.

Sleep with him for the holiday

They're phasing out the wooden cots in favour of travel cots across the Parcs.

It might be that the mattress is too hard. Could you put a towel under the sheet to make it a bit softer?

Or, each parc has a Facebook group for visitors (not ran by the parc) you could ask on the page for the parc you're at, if anyone has one of the wooden cots at their lodge that they aren't using?

Check the storage cupboard for a wooden cot and proper mattress - if there isn't one ring guest services and request one, they should drop one to you, we used this twice with DD and it was great. The first trip it was already in the villa, the second time it was a rubbish general style travel cot with a very thin mattress - rang guest services and they brought a wooden one straight to us.

Only saw your post after I'd typed mine - why?! That cot was a god send!!

greenose · 16/07/2024 22:21

Co sleep, god luck getting him out of your bed after the holiday though.

Garman · 16/07/2024 22:21

Just let him sleep in your bed rather than a bed he hates? Don’t blame him they look uncomfortable AF, and he’s in a new place he’s not familiar with.

MsSquiz · 16/07/2024 22:21

I think it might be a space thing. The travel cots can be stored under the beds and take up less space.

The wooden cot was perfect when we took dd2 for her first trip as she was only 4 weeks old! She would've been lost in a travel cot!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/07/2024 22:23

Just let him sleep in your bed. If you're downstairs out pillows all around the edge.

Overthebow · 16/07/2024 22:25

Have you got a proper mattress for the travel cot? The one they come with is usually plasticky and hard, sometime babies don’t notice as much but a 17 month old toddler will. If you haven’t, you could Amazon one to centre parks? Otherwise could you get a bed guard and put him in a single bed instead?

SouthLondonMum22 · 16/07/2024 22:26

He’s likely just overtired and overwhelmed from the holiday. I wouldn’t want him in my bed so would persevere.

It’s a young toddler who wants comfort, hardly the end of the world to let them in your bed.

The travel cot has a nice comfy mattress, not the hard base. It is just he does not even try to lay down, its like he doesn't realise it is a bed. He used to sleep in it regularly for naps at MIL's.

Im happy to settle him in my bed, but i will not let him sleep with me. Im a heavy sleeper and it's for safety reasons i would not risk it.

I will try and get hold of a wooden cot , thanks all for the advice.

Have you looked in the cupboard where they keep the cleaning bits, sometimes hiding behind the small toilet? There's usually a travel cot in there folded up. At least there always has been in Elveden when we've stayed. A wooden one.

GG1986 · 16/07/2024 23:07

First time we went when baby was 4 months we had the wooden cot and mattress and he slept really well, 2nd time we went they gave us the flimsy travel cot with hard "mattress" and guest services said we could fold a duvet for him to sleep on, I said no and that I wanted a wooden cot and luckily they found one for me and he slept fine. Otherwise I would have had him in bed with me.

Nat6999 · 17/07/2024 00:27

I had a mattress for ds travel cot, it felt like almost a mattress topper & rolled up, I even managed to pack it when we went abroad.

You can comfort a child in their own bed/cot. That is hardly the end of the world either.

mrssunshinexxx · 17/07/2024 06:54

Sleep wit him or push bed against wall in other rooms and put bed guard on it

It's not unsafe when he's 17 months, regardless of how heavily you sleep.
