Best jobs to work around children

Hi, I’m having to put my dream career on a back burner while my child is still young. I’m needing to get a job asap. What are the best jobs to work around children? Ideally matches nursery hours as the only option I have for childcare is nursery. Doesn’t have to be well paid I will continue to work towards my dream job when my child is slightly older in school ect. Please don’t judge me for this post I’ve recently had to leave a front of house position due to no childcare e.g on the weekend shifts and late night shifts. Thanks in advance.

Well working in a nursery is the obvious job if you want nursery hours.
What about part time work? Lots of people work school hours only at our place - big office.

Civil service is very flexible and family friendly if you have any hubs near you. If you look on civilservicejobs then AO and EO grades are generally entry level.

Working in a school. Don’t try working for the NHS.

I worked in children's centres when my kids were younger. Great as flexible working so could do basically anything between 8-6 (7.5) a day. I could also work a long day and a short one. My core hours were 9.30-3,30,

Also worked as a childminder.

Thanks everyone I don’t have the qualifications to work in a nursery school ect, but there’s definitely some other good options on here. On indeed most jobs I’ve looked at say something on the lines of must be able to work weekend and nights. So I started to panic thinking no one would want me, however after reading replies on here I’ve definitely got some more ideas.

@FirstTimeMum0 you don’t need qualifications to work in a nursery, you could get taken on as an apprentice

Thank you I didn’t think about apprenticeships

It’s going to be less about the job and more about what skills you have. Most working parents manage pretty much to fit within nursery hours (which are actually quite long days compared to when they get to school).

What experience do you have and what are you good at? I’m a uni lecturer (so quite a full on intense career) and Dh is self-employed in a trade, and both of us had no issues fitting work around nursery hours. I have a family friendly flexible employer and Dh sets his own hours.

You said you were in a front of house role, so I’m assuming hospitality? What about daytime hours in a cafe/pub/retail? What skills do you have that you could go self-employed and utilise?
