Constipation

My daughter is 6 months old and has started weaning - although she doesn't eat much! Only tiny bits of certain things here and there.

She now hasn't had a poo for three days. This has never happened. Being breastfed, it's always been daily and often several times a day.

Do I need to phone the GP?

Hey my little girl is 6 months ebf, and she only poops once or twice a week, try doing some bicycling with her legs, rubbing downwards from her chest on her belly and squishing her legs up towards her chest and pull them down towards you, all good exercises to get them to poop xx

Thanks, I will try again tomorrow x

I think it can be quite common with weaning. My DD was always an infrequent pooper but became properly constipated during weaning (as in hard poo that was painful to get out rather than soft poo). Pear puree and prune puree help to some extent as do kiwifruits if she is eating finger food. Also intruducing more water with meals. If she is just pooping less frequently but is not uncomfortable and its still fairly soft and easy to pass then she may not be constipated at all.

She still hasn't pooed. Today she's had reflux after milk twice, which is really odd as she's never had reflux before. Do you think constipation could be the cause?

Definitely recommend prunes. Ds was ok when initially weaning but when we've increased him to 2/3 meals, although he's still going daily, it's harder for him to get the poo out so we've given him a prune pouch and it's sorted him right out. He's actually much more frequent now than when ebf as he could go days then without pooing, I think the longest was about 11 days.

My DD had the same issue. She is now 8mo and still has bouts of constipation every other week or so. The doctor prescribes lactulose and I have started to give prunes AT LEAST every other day as I don't want to keep giving her medication. She is already under a dietician for cows milk protein allergy and they just told me to lessen the amount of solids I was giving her (eg. If she was having two meals a day then just to give one) and then try upping to another meal in a couple of weeks and see how she gets on.
Honestly it's so heartbreaking to see her struggling to go to the toilet but also so frustrating that it keeps happening 😔
Hope you LO is okay x

Oh wow 11 days! My daughter has always been 1-3 times a day so it's really strange for her to go days with nothing. I'm most concerned about her reflux suddenly because it's not ordinary and it means she's not having the milk that she should have.

I've got some prune puree so I'll attempt it - she's not a good eater yet (very VERY picky) x
