My 10 week old sweats in her car seat, I only ever put her in it in one layer for example a baby grow, not even a vest but after being in only 20 mins when I get her out you can feel the sweat through her back, I do have the newborn insert in still could this be why?

Oh yes, the poor mites do find it hard to regulate their temperature! It probably is the insert tbh. But unless your ten week old is very large for their age, you’ll likely need it for a little longer for safety. There’s not a lot you can do apart from get your air con circulating before you pop baby into the car and park wherever has most shade (under trees is good if on the street).

If it’s not causing a rash that’s bothersome, baby is hydrated (no dry or dark yellow nappies) and not in the car for prolonged drives, try not to worry too much. I had a summer born in a heat wave and it was 😱 worrying about overheating and sweat. Congrats on your newborn!

Oh I should add, sponge off the sweat with a bit of cool-ish water when you get chance. Don’t wait for normal bathtime. That can help prevent a sweat rash.

Line the car seat with a large muslin. It won't stop her sweating but it may be more comfortable for her. Also much easier to wash than car seat covers. I also used to do this in the pushchair.

How hot is your car? You should try to keep it between 19.5-20c.

I always lined the car seat with one of those big Muslins and that seemed to help with the sweating.

Aeromoov sell sweat-proof liners for car seats which seem to be approved by the major car seat specialists so you could look at these.

It is tricky if you're using aircon or fans to keep the car cool as they don't reach to the rear facing baby seat. Do you have a shade for the window? That can help keep them cooler and if it is possible, try opening the windows for airflow rather than using fans/aircon. I have even seen a device where you essentially tape a wide tube to the rear seat fan/aircon outlet to direct it around the seat! But this might be a bit overkill Grin

Maybe a clip on battery powered fan could work - just be careful the baby can't grab or kick it, and it isn't placed directly in front of them in case of it getting detached during a crash or emergency stop.
