How many shoes does a first walker need?

My ds has been walking confidently for a few months now but I only got his first shoes in May!

They have got wet a few times recently so I bought some second hand cheap crocs wellies but am wondering if he needs another pair of ‘spare’ shoes or sandals? I thought a spare pair of shoes would be a waste of money because won’t he need some new ones soonish but then again he’s had to stay in the buggy today without any shoes because his are wet :/

I didn’t bother thinking about sandals initially because the summer seems to be so short but am wondering if he should have a pair, or would crocs be ok? I don’t know if crocs will be bad for his feet either. As you can see I don’t know much at all about first shoes so please jump in and tell me!

He does have wide feet too and in camper trainers size 5.5. I don’t know if that means anything but added it in for extra info!

1 pair of shoes. They grow out of them so quickly! Personally I wouldn't have crocs as I don't think they're supportive for little feet, however some people do use them.

Crocs are great when they're 2/3 and running in and out of the garden and kicking them on and off again. But you really don't need sandals for a baby especially when summer is nearly over. One good supportive pair is fine. You won't even need boots really until he's confidently walking and able to walk around the park etc. Start Rite are great for wide feet and they do great discounts in their sales.

Two, one for each foot.

I'd have two pairs so he's always got something to wear, but that can be two pairs of shoes/shoes and wellies/shoes and sandals/shoes and cheap plimsolls.

I would make sure that his main pair are proper shoes, properly fitted (not fashion trainers) and are leather (or other waterproof material).

One pair, they’ll only last a few weeks before your buying the next size up anyway! First walkers need comfortable, sensible shoes that fit well not crocs and fashion sandals

Two, one for each foot.

The best thing I have read on here all day 🤣🤣🤣

although wouldn’t put it past MN to say ooohhhhhh that’s discrimination, you are assuming the kid has 2 feet.

I always bought my littles a pair of Clark’s or startrite doodles or canvas shoes in the summer. Dry quickly if wet and not as expensive as leather shoes.

MultiplaLight · 10/07/2024 18:17

One pair plus wellies.

They could have worn wellies today if other shoes are wet.

UnravellingTheWorld · 10/07/2024 18:25

One pair. Shoes are expensive 😭😭😭

I got my son's feet measured once (he was a 6.0). In 6 weeks I sh!t you not he had grown to a 7.5

Six. Weeks.

One pair. Feet grow quickly at this age

cloudy477654 · 10/07/2024 18:44

One pair of proper shoes, and in summer a pair of sandals or canvas shoes and in winter a pair of wellies

DoAClassicCamel · 10/07/2024 18:47

I used to work in a children’s shoe store. One pair is usually sufficient, doodles are cute by Clark’s for summer or a second pair if you want a second pair.

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 10/07/2024 18:49

I never had more than one pair at a time, waste of money when they are growing quickly

Nat6999 · 10/07/2024 18:56

I had a pair of shoes & wellies for winter & shoes, trainers & sandals for summer.
