Pram toppled with baby in

Hey guys. Start off with I feel awful and I feel sick that it even happened. I missed a curb and he toppled over strapped in. I immediately grabbed him out to check for bruises and I can't see anything. He has a little red mark on his head but its not bruised. Now I have an appointment at the GP but I just feel like worst mum in the world. Other than being sick, what do I need to keep an eye out for ?

If it will give you peace of mind then get him checked by the GP. It is highly likely they will tell you he’s fine, and you don’t need to go, however you seem very anxious so I understand why you want to make doubly sure.

They might see something I don't that's all

If a mum friend came to you and told you this same story would you call her failure? Try to be kinder to yourself 💐

I'd probably say it was an accident and it wasnt their fault

So you don't think I'm being silly getting him checked out by gp then? Close relatives are saying I'm being silly. He's fine, he's eating, he's playing so why would I go gp.

Not at all, it will put your mind at rest. GPs never mind checking babies when we're worried about them.

I've been told I'm being too cautious

Exactly, hold yourself to the standards you’d hold to your friends ❤️

Everyone has at least one story like this. I once popped my youngest in a Bumbo seat on the kitchen table for a few seconds while loading the washing machine (we had a dog and I was sleep deprived). She chose that moment to somehow stand (she was too small to- technically!). I will never forget that moment of sheer fright and horror. It was a stone floor: the sound as she slapped down with force and lay there face down.... there was a long moment when she didn't move... I have never been so glad to hear my baby cry.

Now she is a very robust 13 year old.

It sounds like you did very well by him, you had him securely strapped in and he sounds like he's unharmed, thank God.

Do you have anxiety op? This was an accident pure and simple and happens to almost all parents at some point, an unforeseen accident. You are not a failure, and he is fine.

I stress a lot , like I haven't been diagnosed with it if that's what you mean

You are a competent, caring mother than manage your baby perfectly well, but you don't sound like one - you seem wracked with fear and guilt. I wondered if you have anxiety and worry too much? And if you can talk to the dr about that. CBT would help you a lot.

You have an extremely negative view of yourself, is what I can see from your posts.

Well I tipped Dts out of the buggy on a kerb, they weren't strapped in. They were at the stage where they just jumped in if they needed to or we needed to be a bit quicker. Buggy landed on top of them. They were fine. Not the best moment though.
It was just an accident OP.

I'm overly cautious I'd say. And as far as docs are concerned I'm fine

You don't need to see the doctor.

And you're not a bad mum.

We've all had these little accidents with our babies, I think.

Don't panic. You're a good mum!

Floralnomad · 09/07/2024 13:02

If getting him checked out will ease your peace of mind then do it but most people will have had accidents with their kids . Mine are now adult but when our oldest was about 18 months my mum accidentally slammed the car door as he was climbing out and bashed his head , when he was 3 he got trapped in his car seat and a wild pony foal got in the car with him on Dartmoor and when he was about 4 my husband accidentally singed the corner of his eyebrow with a sparkler - he survived and still loves us . Chill a bit , it will make parenthood much more enjoyable .

NotTram · 09/07/2024 13:07

It's life. Will be fine.

How did a pony get in ? And I'm just worried that's all

We parked in a car park on Dartmoor and it climbed in to get to some horse treats ( we have horses) that were in the centre consul when my mum left the passenger door open when she went to get ice creams .
