Preparing formula on the go

I have a 2 week old and I'm concerned on how I'm going to feed her when out and about, does anyone have any top tips?

Her formula has to be mixed with 45 degree water not 70 so don't think the Nuby rapid cool will work.

I also won't be able to get access to boiled water as we use bottled water to make her formula at home due to the tap water being full of minerals here.

I think you can set the nuby to a set temperature but not 100%.

Can you heat to may 50 and then put it in a flask to keep it warm?

If you're gonna be out less than a few hours you can probably make it up and keep it in a cooling bag?

You can get flasks which tell you the temperature of the water inside on a digital lid if you need 45 degrees. But you would need to practice timing how long it took to cool down to 45 degrees before you left the house.
Are you sure about the 45 degrees thing? As that wouldn't be hot enough to kill the bacteria in the formula.

Alternatively you can make up the feeds before you go and carry them in a cool bag with an ice pack. You just have to use it within 4 hours (nhs website).

I would time going out when you can so that you make a bottle before you go and take it with you. It will be fine at room temp for a couple hours. Or cool and keep in cool bag to reheat as necessary.

I would also get a flask and test the temperature it keeps the water at. It definitely will not be 70c after a few hours.

I’d be inclined to make one before you go and then take a flask with you for a later feed.

You can’t set the nuby rapid cool but it takes it to just above body temp.
That said rapid cool is THE absolute best, I highly recommend it.

it was great with my first and also my 2nd who has cmpa

45 degrees isn’t killing any bugs so why 45???

what milk is it?
I used rapid cool for alfamino and various other partially and fully hydrogellised (spelling?) milks

edit: the guidelines for formula are mega prescriptive for legal reasons in reality there is a lot of flex making formula it’s pretty hard to make it “unsafely” if you are even vaguely following the guidelines …. I didn’t realise this with my first baby for ages!

The 45 degrees is for reflux milk i think. I have the same problem. I have just started using the rapid cool. I would either boil the kettle and leave it the 45 minutes before pouring into the thermos. I didn’t even leave it that long recently and it still mixed ok with the powder as it had cooled down a bit after a few hours.

BellaNutella88 · 09/07/2024 16:36

And the reason for those asking is because the reflux milk goes into clumps if you use boiling hot water.

Thank you!
I don't live in the UK ans I think the formula guidelines in other parts of Europe are different, the formula I'm using definitely requires to be mixed with 45 degree water and not 70 degree
