When would you wake 3yo with high temp to give calpol?

DS has had a high temperature on and off for the last couple of days. I checked on him at 1am last night and it was 37.7 (high but not an official “fever”). He was sleeping soundly.

I woke him up to give him calpol and he did not go back to sleep for THREE HOURS (until 4am). He wasn’t upset, just couldn’t get back to sleep. He will probably have a temperature over night tonight, so it got me thinking.. when would you wake a child to give calpol and when would you leave them to sleep it off?

37.7C isn't running a high fever. I wouldn't even give calpol in the first place if no other symptoms.

You could always give him the calpol before he goes to sleep if he's creeping towards a fever

The doctor told me to only treat a temp if it’s annoying the baby. So if he’s sleeping then let him sleep and give him Calpol only when he wakes himself

I have one child I would leave to sleep unless fever was nearer 39, keep an eye but if well in themselves leave them overnight and not wake for Calpol.

The other child has ongoing health issues which mean they are on prophylactic antibiotics and even a low fever is a big deal as can mean hospital for blood tests and quite a few unplanned admissions. I have had to wake to medicate overnight in the past after admissions, and I would absolutely wake them for Calpol/Ibuprofen on schedule overnight, even if they looked ok. So I think it depends on your child.
