Baby Bottle Making: Help!

I know there are sooo many different opinions on this but here we go:

I use Kendamil. The bottle prep machine for my 8 week old just wasn't suiting her, she was almost pulling disgusted faces drinking the milk and never having more than 2oz. Making such a mess and feeding her was a real struggle. We tested the bottle prep machine theory and tried her with ready made Kendamil bottles instead and she drank 4oz without a single spill or disgusted face. Safe to say, we're scrapping the prep machine.

So now we've tried using the hotshot method with a Nuby RapidCool. We measure out 4oz of freshly boiling hot water straight out of the kettle into the baby bottle, tip out 3oz into the RapidCool, leaving 1oz for the hotshot, tip in the 4 scoops of Kendamil for a 4oz bottle and swirl it around.
Wait for the RapidCool to turn green, and pour the 3oz back into the baby bottle and swirl around again. Then feed the baby with it straight away.

Is this a correct way to do things because Google is so confusing. Should we be waiting for her bottle to cool a little before we feed her, because we literally fed her straight away? I tested it on my wrist and it felt warm, but not hot. But it did feel a lot warmer than the prep machine bottles used to feel

It should be the same temperature as your arm. You also shouldn’t be using water just below boiling temp for the hot shot as it will destroy some of the nutrients in the milk.

We pre made ours. Make as normal with the correct amount of water, add power shake and then cooled in a large pan of freezing cold water. Changed water half way through. Put cooled bottles in the fridge. They're good for 24 hrs

To warm, use bottle warmer or we boiled the kettle and set the bottle in a jug of hot water, shake and test temp. Takes around 2 mins to warm 7 oz

The temperature of the water has no impact on the nutrients at all. OP have a look at the Kendamums group on Facebook, lots of useful information about ways to prepare it etc from really well informed people

We used nuby rapid cool. Instead of the hot shot we just put all the water and formula powder into the nuby. Boiled kettle, put water into the nuby, then add the powder, then shake until it was cool. We had two nuby flasks and would alternate. Then after clean and sterilise in the Milton cold water.

If you think it’s too warm then cool it a bit more in the nuby flask? I had a friend who used the hot shot method with the nuby and that worked fine for her.

When using the pre-mix bottles, are you using the sterilised teats that come with it, or decanting it into a bottle?

If you are using the teats that come in the box, the shape may be more appealing than the ones you use on your regular bottles?

It's the bigger ready made bottles, the 250ml so we're pouring it into bottles. The difference when she has those to when we use the prep machine is crazy! She's like a different baby. But yeah, too expensive to come her on those

That's a really good idea to pour it back into the Nuby to get the temperature down, thanks Smile. We've also brought a thermometer so I'm going to test the bottle once I've made it to put my mind at ease. Just wondered if I was doing anything wrong but I think I've just been used to the temperature of the prep machine bottles which is a lot cooler (which is probably the problem with it)

I have to say that we’ve been using the prep machine from when our LO was around a month old, and still using it now (she’s just under 4 months).

Recently she has become extremely fussy at the bottle at times, using her hands to push it away, turning her head and letting it dribble out the side of her mouth. I did begin to wonder whether the prep machine had something to do with it…

The Health Visitor even discouraged it. 🤷

You’re completely over complicating this. You boil the kettle. Chuck everything in the Nuby. Shake. 2 mins later it’s green and ready to serve. That’s it.
