Dreading holiday with poorly toddler

My little girl (16 months) has been under the weather for about two weeks or so, coughing and a bad cold that isn’t improving. I took her to the GP to check that it wasn’t a chest infection etc, they advised that it was probably just viral and that she didn’t need anything more than paracetamol.
She’s now also got two back teeth coming through and has been getting progressively more miserable as the days go by.

DD now won’t eat anything other than yogurt and her milk, and is really just not herself - crying, screaming, is really clingy but then also doesn’t want to be cuddled or played with.

We are going on our family summer holiday in a week’s time and I’m sad to admit that my husband and I are dreading it. We just think DD is going to be miserable and don’t know if taking her out of a familiar environment when she’s poorly is going to make things even worse.

We have been giving her calpol and teething gel, extra milk feeds, and trying to give her lots of cuddles, but I don’t know what more we can do. I’m trying not to think about the 2.5 hour flight! Things that normally entertain her like books, puzzles, toys aren’t cutting it for her at the minute.

If anyone has any miracle remedies for teething, upset toddlers I would be so grateful. She’s been poorly and miserable for weeks and I just want to help her feel better.

Personally I wouldn’t put my daughter or myself through that, sounds like Dante’s 7th circle of hell.

whose family is it? Could you or DH go on your own and the other person stay home.

Looking after a miserable screaming baby/toddler is hard enough at home, but 50 times worse staying somewhere else.

A week is a long time. She could be fine by then.

They can bounce back very quickly, and you’ve got a week. I wouldn’t write it off yet.

Just chill out. This is a rite of passage for babies and toddlers. A week is plenty of time for her to improve and if she doesn’t, just go with it. This is a very short period in your life. Don’t miss out on making family memories because of a cold and teething. Also make sure you alternate nurofen with calpol, it’s much better for teething

You just need to get on with it. She'll be distracted with new experiences and it won't be any more fun if you stayed at home. Just one of those things. My DC were rarely ill but my DD only slept in very short bursts for years and would wake up screaming all through the night until she was about 10. My DP always used to say it wasn't worth going on holiday because it was never relaxing and it was harder work in an apartment or tent than at home but I'm glad we went away with her and tried new things. I was dead on my feet for 10 years so thought i may as well be somewhere warm with a glass of wine in my hand while I had my nervous breakdowns.

She could well be bouncing about full of fun in a week, so I'd try not worry too much yet.

For the teething, yes, try nurofen as well. What teething gel have you got? We found anbesol the best (the liquid is easier to apply, the gel is harder to spill).

If she's been ill for a fortnight, it's highly highly likely she will be better in another week's time, honestly OP. Don't worry about it for now and see how she is nearer the time. If she's still that ill then I'd cancel and claim it back on the travel insurance tbh.

Second using Nurofen for teething, i found it helped much better than paracetamol
