Threadworms and mattresses

hello, this is, admittedly my second worm based post. So, sorry. I have ocd with a particular fear around parasites so this stuff is really getting to me - please be kind! Discovered my eldest had worms a little while ago. Took the meds, had no worms on them at night for a week now. Great stuff. This evening whilst I was putting the youngest to be my eldest pulled his mattress off the bed and on to the floor. His pjs underneath it. I don’t know whether I need to be worried about this or not. My ocd brain envisions clouds of eggs spraying across the room and all over as the mattress drops.

Yes - also have this particular phobia (helminthphobia), not pleasant when working in a preschool and have caught this myself.

The mattress falling is not too bad, just give the floor a quick hoover if you are thinking about it, but generally I wouldn’t worry too much. Just making sure everyone showers in the morning and night time clothes are washed and sheets changed more often.

It is awful, but for me it is the anxiety and panic attacks I get if I find one that make this a horrible experience.

It’s absolutely fine. This is just your anxiety talking. Honestly, I don’t even wash bedding after threadworms.

@mindutopia really? And they went away? I was under the impression all the cleaning etc is vital.

Thank you @Silverfoxlady I did give it a little hoover for peace of mind. I have been showering everyone and washing sheets every day. It’s tiring, particularly combined with the anxiety as you say. Thank you for phobia for me. Sorry to hear you suffer also.

I only wash the bedding, not the mattress protectors etc. below it, so you should be ok. I change bedding for the 3 days after they take the meds.

My eldest dd had them and I medicated her. She's 6 so I bought pull ups and put them on her every night until they went as the pull ups are too thick for eggs and threadworms to get through and they got trapped in the inside.
When the worms were gone, I washed the bedding on a hot wash.
They haven't come back and all was fine.

I did bin her underwear though and bought all new ones.
