Tantrums at nearly 5 -normal?

My ds has big full on anger tantrums, tears rolling down the face, lying on the floor beating his hands and feet etc.

My DC1 never had a tantrum as she could always be talked down, but he is honestly uncontrollable sometimes. It's usually over very silly things, like this week I took him out with me to watch DC1's dance club. I took toys to keep him busy. He opened his bag, saw the toys and had a meltdown saying he didn't want toys. He screamed at me for 25 mins in front of all the good mums who dont have screaming children who can't be talked down.

I am 99% certain he has ADHD although we can't get a diagnosis before 6. DC1 has it and DC2s behaviour is definitely hyperactive (less inattentive but he ignores us completely when focusing on a particular game).

So is this normal 5 year old? ADHD? Something else we should be looking for assessment as he starts school?

On the basis of one incident I don't think anyone can tell you if your ds has adhd, but tantrums at 5 years old are not unusual. All children are different so there's no point comparing your ds and dd.

That's just an example. He does this regularly.

I would say that tantrums at 5 years of age are within normal behaviours

Following as both of my 4 1/2 year old twins are like this. I live in fear of giving them the wrong colour plate or anything that involves them being told "no"! I know at least a couple of other 4/5 year olds who are the same, and I don't think it's that unusual. I don't think my twins are neurodiverse btw, there's absolutely nothing else to suggest that they might be.

My nearly 6 year old has recently started with tantrums. Walking off, lip out, tears usually over small things that wouldn't have bothered him a few months ago. I think it's developmental with him, I don't suspect ADHD. He has increased screen time so wondering if it could be that?

Thank you! Ok so it's probably normal development. I am told he's a lovely boy at nursery. He saves it all up for me!

Normal for one of mine. Usually caused by hunger/ thirst/ tiredness.
Ignoring you while focusing on an absorbing game- also normal in my opinion! A LOT of 5 year old behaviour could be said to have things in common with adhd symptoms, but is in fact small children being small children.

Yes we waited until DC1 was 9 to have them assessed for this reason but I was pretty certain. It's now very obvious when I see her vs her peers.
