I have a baby who is almost 4 months old. The gp contacted me to book the 6 week postnatal check and I just kept forgetting to book it. Then the health visitor came and checked my baby when she was 2 months old so I didn't think it was necessary to book the 6 week check as I was satisfied with everything because the health visitor had checked everything. Then I received a message to book my baby's 2 month check and again I forgot to book it, then the doctor sent me an appointment themselves which I attended but they couldnt see us because we arrived 2 mins late. During this period my daughter had an ear infection which we took her to the hospital for and they said they will refer her to an ear doctor to make sure everything was okay. A week later I received a letter for the ear doctor but it was for my son instead of my daughter so I was sure it was a mistake on their part and I didn't attend the appointment. Then my phone got stolen two weeks ago and I haven't been able to contact anyone. I got a phone today and received a call that an appointment will be arranged with a health visit (I believe to check up on us) and I am so so so so scared and worried. I promise I'm not a bad mum At all, I'm just such a dopey and forgetful person and these 3 incidents have happened all at once, so I don't blame them for being concerned. But now I'm so scared. Will social services be involved? Will my kids be taken away? Someone please help me. IM SO SCARED OMG and my excuses just sound so pathetic aswell. Will they take my kids away😭😭

If what you’re saying is true then they probably just want to check on the baby since you haven’t attended the appointments. Unless there are other issues at play here then it’s unlikely social services will be involved.

You really need to step up and be an adult though, seems like a lot of excuses.

No they won’t take your baby away but you can’t just keep forgetting to do important stuff. Vaccinations are important and it’s essential to get them done at the right point or your baby can get very ill. If you get a medical appointment and you can’t attend or think it’s wrong then you need to phone up and cancel or change it. This is really basic stuff OP and you either need to get on top of this (using reminders etc) or ask for help. Can I ask, have you ever been assessed for ADHD or some other memory issue? I’d also be visiting the GP yourself TBH.

Do you live with a partner?

How old is your son?
Are they happy healthy clean?
Then nothing to worry but find a way to organise yourself

Why would anyone take your kids away?

You’re right, your excuses don’t sound good or probable so stop being flakey, especially when it comes to their health.

RoyKentwhistle · 01/07/2024 22:42

The issue is- some babies are being neglected and services are there to keep an eye on babies. Your reasons are perfectly valid, to you. But concerns arise when this keeps happening and your baby could be flagged up. Just rebook as soon as possible

You need a system to remember these things, your kids health is important. Always attend appointments, think of it as a free check up. Maybe add reminders to your phone calendar or something - but as kids get older you'll need to remember even more stuff
