So-called "allegations" against DS

This is NOT a troll post! (Don't know where to post this!)

Ds is in year 8, 13. Today I had a call from someone at the school (don't know who, as they didn't introduce themselves), saying that my Ds has been writing stories and sending them to people in the year group. Apparently some of them were sexually explicit.

They informed me there would be a meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss this and that I need to bring him in. (He's been off-sick this week). The person rang off and I looked around all of his devices, and there was nothing.

I rang the school, but there was no-one to speak to me, and I left a message requesting someone ring me back urgently. So far no-one has gotten back to me and I'm really stressed out about the outcomes.

Any advice??

Could it have been a “friend” playing a prank? Very strange for a teacher to ring and not introduce themselves

Neodymium · 28/06/2024 13:28

Prank call would be my first thought. What did ds say?

Couchpotato3 · 28/06/2024 13:30

Did they give a specific time and location for the meeting? Highly unusual for anyone from a school not to introduce themselves, especially for such a difficult call. Something not right here, by the sound of it.

As pp very rare someone from school wouldn't introduce themselves.

Can you go up to the school?

Procrastinates · 28/06/2024 13:33

It definitely sounds like someone playing a prank as anyone calling from the school would have identified themselves. Was the number that called one you recognise as being from the school?

BobbyBiscuits · 28/06/2024 13:36

Did they give you a time and location of this supposed meeting, and the name of who would be attending? Otherwise it's bollocks. If they did, then contact the school secretary asking to clarify who you are meeting with and why.
If not then ignore it.

Verite1 · 28/06/2024 13:44

Yes - were you given those details of who you would be meeting? If not, I would call back and check. Without those details it sounds a bit suspect. However, I don't think the fact that they are not on his device makes much difference - they could easily have been deleted. Have you asked him yet?

Ubugly · 28/06/2024 13:48

I've had several calls from school and they always introduce themselves by name and subject teacher.

There are prankers on social media who make calls like this all the time.

Youwouldntlastandh0ur · 28/06/2024 13:51

It was from the school. School name and logo came up and it was easy to recognise. I haven't any details about who I will meeting either.

I'll try and ring in again.

They should definitely also have a procedure as well.

That's really poor of the school then to be honest! Identifying yourself and giving details of the meeting are such basics it's no wonder most of us thought it was a prank call!

He denied it all and I had a look through the devices he owns. Nothing. It seems probable they have been deleted, but whoever made light of this may have sent them to the school.

I have no way of knowing atm.

This could be a prank call...I don't even know myself but thanks for this...I'm going to think on it a bit more and work out whether I should get in touch or not.

I'd go up there if they're not answering!

rainbowstardrops · 28/06/2024 14:00

I'd be going to the school in person. You can't be expected to just sit in it all weekend without knowing any details.
Just out of curiosity, why has your son been off school this week?

If it came from the school number it's less likely to be a prank call. If noone has called you back by 3pm I would be going up to the school.

If he has Snapchat it’s probably that. (Awful app but the majority of kids seem to be on it without parents having any idea about the seedy nature of it/risks posed).

He's not been too well this week. He had some symptoms of covid and I went out and bought a test, and it was negative.

He does not have a Snapchat (only WhatsApp, Discord.)
