What are your summer routines/rules

I’ve got a term time contract and we’ve all just finished up for the summer holidays (Scotland)

dc are 11, 8 & 6

Previous holidays I’ve been pretty relaxed in terms of routine and a few rules around snacks and screen time. Just to stop them hassling me all day for them!

now they’re a bit older I’m thinking they could do a bit more… I’m already fed up tidying the kitchen and we’re only half a day in.

what rules and routines have you found work well in the summer holidays when you’re spending time at home with dc?

Honestly if you figure it out let me know. I'm ready to greet already and there's 7 weeks to go!

The weather isn't helping at all tbf.

@Cosycover 🤣 me too. Hence the thread.

Weather absolutely isn’t helping. Would be good if they could get outside.

I’ve just agreed with them they’ve to each help at one meal time per day. Youngest is going to do breakfast and the other 2 will swap lunch and dinner.

Hi, I have a term time job so i’m off on the holidays with my two kids (4 and 7) which is great but I find it hard to know how to structure our days. Sometimes the days feel really long and especially if it’s wet and we’re at home, they end up having more screen time than I’d like and I feel a lot of guilt but I’m not sure how to give them ‘down time’ and fill the day too. I also feel guilty about trying to have some time to myself but realistically need it at some point during the day. They want me to play all the time with them and I feel bad saying no but realistically there is stuff that needs done at home and I want them to be able to play independently too but that only lasts so long before they get fed up. Would love to know if any others have tips. Thanks!

The same as weekends

An hour in the AM
Half hour at lunch
An hour before dinner

I think it's too much but what can you do

The rest of the time it's park/biking/playing out/pool/holiday
