Which scooter for 2 year old?

Hi everyone, my son will be 2 next month and I want to get him a scooter but not sure which to get for his age.

I'm undecided between the 3 in 1 mini micro that has the ride along seat or the mini micro without the seat that folds away?

At 2 years old will he get used to the scooter quite quickly or is the ride along a better option to build up confidence?

If the 3 in 1 was foldable I would 100% get that version as I would prefer a foldable scooter but not sure what to prioritise between a seat and foldable? Thanks x

Does he go to nursery or play groups that have scooters? Or is he around cousins or friends that have them? Both of mine knew basically what to do with a scooter on their second birthday (my eldest presumably from nursery). The difference is that DD1 only really pottered round the garden on it, at most up and down the pavement outside our house, until she was about three. DD2 was doing the nursery run on her scooter before she turned two. If you just want him to have fun with it, I'd be fine getting the foldable. If you want it to replace the buggy, it's a bit more of a gamble.

Foldable definitely so you can put it in the pushchair when he gets fed up!

Honestly I'd just get a second hand one with a design he likes- they grow out of them so quickly and chances are if you spend a lot of money on a new one he won't like it!

I would go for the foldable one, assuming he has average motor skills for a 2 year old he should pick it up fairly quickly, and in any case I don't think the seat will help him learn to scoot. The folding will be one will be great if you want to stick it in the pushchair etc.

When you are teaching him, hold him rather than the scooter so he learns to balance himself and push rather than just you pulling him along by the handle.

we got our then two year old an all singing all dancing scooter with seat, push handle etc. it was very expensive but it’s still in the garage because the “high quality” materials just made it too heavy for her. We got a peppa pig one from smyths for £20 and it’s great. Also just a hint if it’s a 3 wheeler get the ones with 2 wheels at the front and one at the back. Two wheels at the back just made her clip her ankle constantly!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Also, are the LED lights a big hit with toddlers or are they not worth the extra price?

For us, the novelty of the LEDs (on a scooter at the grandparents') wore off quickly. They are good for visibility in the dark, though. I'd pay a little more, but only a little.

I'd definitely suggest looking secondhand – we have two micro minis picked up for a fraction of what they cost new.
