Hi can anyone help suggesting if this is normal for 16 month old not pee the whole night, woke up with a very dry nappy and the moment I let him nappy free he pee'ed, is this normal should I be worried about dehydration? He pee'ed in the garden so really don know how concentrated the pee was, please suggest xx

Just keep an eye on him sometimes nappies can be dry over night up his fluids today if it's warm where you are he might be a little dehydrated

This was normal for my child at around that age. I introduced a potty first thing in the morning, to get her used to it and when it was time to potty train later on we did day and night together, so good. I do throughout her life worry she doesn't drink enough, especially in this heat, but she does drink, has never been ill with a uti etc.

Each child is different, some are big nightime wetters ( I think hormonal or something) and some aren't. Also, my younger child there is no way he would happily sit on a potty when he wakes up, far to grumpy.

As long as he does a big pee when he gets up and plenty during the day with no very concentrated or smelly urine I wouldn’t worry. My daughter was “dry” at night for about a year before she actually toilet trained. Obviously she still wore a nappy at night but more often than not it was dry when she woke up and by the time we went downstairs for breakfast it would be heavy and warm 🥴 would just wake up dry then do a massive morning pee! The reason we don’t all get up during the night is because he have higher levels of Anti diuretic hormones overnight in line with our natural circadian rhythm. Some children develop this earlier than others! If it continues it should make your toilet training journey that much easier! My daughter has never had an accident overnight and we stopped nappies at night the very day we stopped them during the day.
