Help! Greasy/oily baby bottles

Help! I am pulling my hair out - we are using SMA althera after bottle feeding breastmilk for 2.5 months.

Since the switch our bottles have been SO GREASY and oily. They have a load of residue on them no matter what I do. Even the Milton water ends up oily after I sterilise.

I have tried:
Milton bottle wash
Fairy liquid extra power
Leaving them to soak for hours in boiling hot water and soap
Using a combination of a dishmatic and bottle brush
Going over them multiple times

It can't be good to feed him using these but I don't have much choice. Nothing is cutting through the grease. Please help!!

Hi, I just wondered if you found a solution to the greasy bottles?

We have just started SMA Althera for our 8 week old baby girl as she is showing signs of CMPA. It’s her first day on it and poor thing isn’t keen on it (smells and tastes awful, not to mention how watery it is)

On top of that I have just washed and sterilised her bottles and also found there’s a greasy residue left!

Thank you in advance x

@Aisha92 hey!! Aw bless you, hope you see improvements!

Yes!!! Moppet sponges saved my sanity haha. I got spontex ones. I didn't think they'd make a difference as I was using another type of sponge already but they really worked!!
I also got a stronger washing up liquid, however that on its own didn't work and I didn't stop using it so no idea if it made any difference or if it was just the sponges!

Best of luck!

We were on alfamino and it was the same. We used a good squirt of washing up liquid and boiling water give it a good shake very careful then bottle brush. Then wash normally and then sterilise. Try to do it as close to them finishing the bottle as possible.

@beigecolourpalette Oh never thought of changing the sponge/brush. I will definitely give them a go, thank you! X

Having the same issue. Elbow grease washing up liquid, a wirey sponge and some anti grease cloths have helped but I have to wash them literally 3 times before they can be sterilised.

I found some success with cold water rinse before washing. Wash as soon as possible after baby had finished bottle. And I also tried 'milk buster' for an initial swish before washing in hot water.
