It's an almost dry at night question

Do you wake your child to use the toilet before you yourself go to bed?

Mine is 3yo and we've just ditched the pull ups after waking dry for about a month, then last night obviously they wet the bed around 1am.

Wondering whether to wake them for a wee stop before I go to sleep?

We never did. It feels like it's just making more work for yourself for no real gain. I can't imagine its especially nice for the child either. My eldest was in pull ups at night until 5 though.

I suppose the gain would be not having to change the bedding in the middle of the night and extra washing, be much simpler to escort child to loo and back, and nicer for the child than to wake up wet and get upset about that?

Useful to hear what others do so thank you.

We took for a wee when we went to bed. She did a "sleep wee" and never really woke up. It wasn't difficult just lifted her, carried her to the toilet and carried her back. We never had any night bed wetting

Lifting them isn’t usually a good idea because it’s encouraging them to wee without fully waking. If he’s been dry for over a month then I’d say it’s one off blip, which will happen occasionally so don’t change anything at night. If you felt like he drank more water than usual in the evening last night or something keep an eye on that. But otherwise don’t overthink it. Doubling up the sheet and mattress protector is a good idea too so you just whip the wet layer off and no need to remake the bed.

I never did. If accidents are only happening every month or so, it doesn't seem worth a nightly wake up, if they're happen more often, the kids not ready to be out of pull-ups.

Get a few waterproof sheets (asda own brand are cheap & as good as bigger brands) and extra bedding, then layer up the mattress. In the night you only need to pill off top sheet & waterproof, and there's a clean set ready to go underneath. I also keep a clean cover on the out of season duvet, so if the one they're using gets wet, you can just switch and get them back to bed in less then a minute.

A friend did this with her DC and was still doing it at 6yo as it's hard to know when to stop once you've built this habit in. I'd think it'll be easier in the long run not to do this. If they're wetting the bed regularly I'd just stick with a nighttime pull up for now. If it's a rare occurrence I'd deal with changing the bedding.

We did lift my daughter but she had got to four years old almost five and we wanted to help her be free of pull ups. She then was dry a few weeks later. We insist on a last sprinkle before getting into bed. Our 2 year old was dry at night at 2.5 but we do now make him go to the loo if he wakes up and comes into our bed. He can sleep through fine without peeing - we just have to make sure he won’t get cold as cold can cause a wet through!
