Flying with push chair - logistics

I just want to be prepared as to what happens and open to any advise.

We are flying to Europe next month (2 hr flight) with Ryan Air. I know that i can take pushchair to the steps of plane and then it will go in the hold. I have read that sometimes it gets given back as soon as you are off plane and sometimes get it back at baggage reclaim.

Some people seem to get a light weight pram that folds down small, we have a 3 wheel jogger pram, which i want to take because we are traveling to a hilly place and will be walking off road a bit!!!

I am looking at bags for the pram to prevent damage.

How do ppl manage putting it into the bag!! I might be over thinking but are the ground crew ok with you pausing to put the pram in the bag. I'm not sure how it will work with the usual push to get on a ryan air flight ( I refuse to pay extra for first boarding!!!) If the pram has a label how does this work with the bag? Is a bag worth it?

I'm more anxious than usual thinking about first holiday with baby (8months old). I will be taking a sling but baby is now no longer sleeping in sling and will only sleep in pram if out and about so need to take it.

Thanks all

I used to take DS out of the pushchair at the gate, bag it (ask for the tag to go on the handle of the bag) then carry it to the steps of the aircraft to make life safer. Standing on an apron folding a pram with a child is not safe in my opinion.

Its been a few years but I always had to fold at the gate, not actually getting on the plane.

Why don't you check the pushchair in with the rest of your luggage, use a sling or carry the child through the airport, or, putting on my hard hat, use a luggage trolley to transport said child until the gate.
